I think that's where I encountered my first buggy gameplay mechanic in that game.

You see, the NPC ai is curious by nature... So if you pick a tree with some cover, shoot once, they will come to you. If you're hidden well enough, you can shoot the guy on the face, wait for the next guy to come over, repeat.

It was how I cleared that first place... Admittedly, I was almost crying from laughing and made a neat pile of bodies because they all followed the same path to get shot on the face.

Make sure you got STALKER complete first.(its a mod)
Get the silenced pistol and extra ammo from the crate in the train compartment near the rookie village(Near the place with the wounded man)
Allow your allies to charge while you go to the place from the back. Don't forget to use the silenced pistol instead of the regular one.

PROTIP: Use the [ button to use a medikit and the ] to use a bandage.

Leaning (Q and E by default) around corners in stalker helps a lot and generally using cover rather than standing out in the open.

Also, don't get complete. Ever. Allow me to copy paste.

The reasons to not play complete are following:
It makes the game easier.
It's unoptimised.
It's not vanilla and as such new players shouldn't play it.
It changes much too little to be worth playing for a veteran.
It's a bunch of small mods thrown into a compilation, with pretty much no credit to the original authors.
It doesn't add anything compared to mods like AMK or LURK, just removes the vanilla feel and improves the graphics.
~Artist~ Pavel, is a pretentious douchebag.
It gets way too much press for being not much more than a compilation of graphic mods and a few gameplay changes.
There are some really good modders out there, making really complex and balanced mods which adds lots of features, many starting from scratch, or at least acknowledging the giants upon which shoulders they stand. What kind of press do these guys get? NONE.

Nope it doesn't. Unless you count bugs that crash the game as difficulty.

It's unoptimised.

Yet again, this is a lie. My game runs as smooth as it did when the game was vanilla only with less bugs

It's not vanilla and as such new players shouldn't play it.
It is very much original to vanilla. It only polishes the game and adds a few more things(Sleeping bags)

It changes much too little to be worth playing for a veteran.
You didn't read the bug fixes and the AI tweaks did you?

It's a bunch of small mods thrown into a compilation, with pretty much no credit to the original authors.
I don't see how that affects the gameplay in anyway. I am pretty sure he gave a few people credit but I never read credits.

It doesn't add anything compared to mods like AMK or LURK, just removes the vanilla feel and improves the graphics.
Yet again you are wrong. Seems like someone is being butthurt or is just talking out of his ass

~Artist~ Pavel, is a pretentious douchebag.
Irrelevant

It gets way too much press for being not much more than a compilation of graphic mods and a few gameplay changes.
Again, irrelevant

There are some really good modders out there, making really complex and balanced mods which adds lots of features, many starting from scratch, or at least acknowledging the giants upon which shoulders they stand. What kind of press do these guys get? NONE.
Care to list some of them? Both LURK and AMK change the game drastically to be anything near the vanilla game and Oblivion lost feels like a mess.

I found Complete with all it's graphic improvements and bug fixes to acutally run better/faster than stock Stalker.
The AI improvements and bug fixes are just wonderful. Let's be honest, Stalker was pretty badly coded and it was riddled with a ton of bugs.

Not to mention it adds a lot of good features into the game which should have already been in there to start. The ability to repair things for a start (SoC). Without complete I found the "Unique" weapons to be useless because they would either start out nearly broken or would just decay too quickly.

I still want to play through a whole game of the Narodnaya Solyanka mod, got about a third into the game and that seems to be about all the translators got up to  :'(
Untill then, it's Complete all the way down.

I personally never found any bugs in vanilla stalker, and it ran perfectly fine. There are patches available. If you play complete on your first play through, you'll compare every mod you play on other play throughs to complete, not vanilla. As a lot of mods don't change graphics, it might seem like a graphical downgrade.

What I guess I meant was, don't use mods on your first play through.

Well I agree there. You should atleast try to play the game stock for a bit before deciding to install any mods.
You get to see what the mod has improved or you get to see if the mod has ruined the experience.

Win/win really.

Well the whole point of complete isn't to drastically change the game, like oblivion lost, or LURK, or such (even though even OL doesn't change it that much), It's to COMPLETE the game itself, fix a shitload of the bugs, make mechanics better/more realistic, fix/tweak AI, etc. It's to make the vanilla experience a lot more legit, and correct. LURK has the same goal, but LURK changed a lot. Complete is more of a fixer-uper, and is for those who would like to play the games vanilla, but play a much better vanilla so to say. If you want all these crazy changes and such, then you shouldn't be looking at complete. That's not the point.

But you probably should play vanilla first before playing mods, that is true.

I'm trying to get through Clear Sky but I'm having a couple of of problems.

The first is that I can't get the third upgrade for the armorer in the Clear Sky base the second is that I can't get by the army base at the start of Cordon. I wait until night, low crouch through the grass as far away from the base as possible and I barely get halfway to the fallen tree before that guy with the magic floating PKM eats through my health in a second or so.

I'm having the same problem, just started Clear Sky and that's where I'm off.  My thought is next time I will goto the NE exit from the swamps and try to reach my object that way, because it is impossible to get past the stupid Army machine guns.

And I haven't found the 3rd upgrade either.

Ah, yeah, that bit is a bitch. You're going to want to dash for cover, mainly rocks, along the left side. Shoot anyone who approaches you, but wait for the clamor to die down before you move to your next point of cover.

It seems like a matter of luck.  I ran through that place(Hitting cover spots when I could).  That magical omniscient machine gun was completely ridiculous.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

I could be wrong, but taking a few well-placed rifle shots at the slit the gunner sees out of(note, the gunner doesn't seem to do shit, the gun moves on its own it seems) can make it stop for a few seconds.

Otherwise, yeah, it's a matter of having medkits, and ducking behind cover until it stops for second.

As for the armor upgrade, I think it might be stash loot somewhere in the Swamps. I forget.

Shooting, and killing, the gunner does help a bit, yeah. Funny story, I once killed all the Military at that outpost, but the gun still fired. I figured that the game spawned a Military to man the gun.

So I got past and circled around to kill him. I found the gunner's nest, but no gunner. I did find a lot of bodies and blood, though.

Also note, the military base is an excellent source of loot in the beginning of the game. Stash everything on a corpse and drag it to Sidorovich, and you should be making at least 10k a run.

It helps that the military is very stupid. I got in jumping on the anomaly-filled debris, started shooting into the barracks from the outer wall, and several went inside and looked towards the middle of the base, giving me a clear, unobstructed shot at the back of their perfectly silhouetted heads.
