More reality based, in my opinion... plus its a more fearful outcome then It is illegal to refer to anybody by their gender.

Women:
C+: For safety reasons, women are not allowed to work under any condition deemed to be dangerous.
L+: Anti-discrimination has made it so woman are more likely to get jobs they are not qualified for due to fear of discrimination charges.
L++: Anti-discrimination laws are so strict that it actually discriminates against men.

Racial Discrimination
C+: People are employed by their own merits without the need to adhere to arbitrary restrictions.
L+: Anti-discrimination has made it so non-whites are more likely to get jobs they are not qualified for due to fear of discrimination charges.
L++: Anti-discrimination laws are so strict that it actually discriminates against white people.

Why have L++?  Just knock it down to L and L+...   >.>   The C+ I put in would be equal to your L++....   if that is your intent.

(I don't get why people keep using L+ and L++....  Well I do, its due to coding.... but its confusing....)

Er... actually, your L++ would be C++...
Think of Africa and it's apartheid system at one point. It discriminated against the population majority, the blacks.

Discrimination is discrimination. You can't have anti-discrimination laws that wrap back around to negative numbers. That's just silly.

Malaysia is C++ lol, we have discrimination laws in place to protect the malay majority! yes, companies, by law, must hire a certain number of malay workers, large companies must have at least 1 malay company director, etc etc etc.

Then why do so many people think that it's important to get a map of each site in LCS? No, I think mapping is well and truly dead.

Maps are needed because the layout of each Site randomly changes every few days. I always saw that mechanic as nerfing mapping, and thereby compelling the LCS player to actually gain Maps if they want to stay competitive.

That's only the case if you shut the place down, and only if the place doesn't support high security. In more recent releases, locations will use the same map for the whole game if you let them.

Sure you can.  Sensationalize and popularize it enough and some politicians will put pants on their head and ride with it without looking at the consequences.

But, its for the CCS right?  Why would they say that they are discriminating against the minority?  Or favoring the majority?
Merits by play of definition can be pretty open. >.>

And the L++, its more of a fear of what could happen under liberal dominance.  As the CCS Founder... what would you be more afraid of?  What are you more likely to believe and act to counter?

Anti-discrimination laws are so strict that it actually discriminates against white people.(Or majority/dominant race)

vs

It is illegal to refer to anybody by their race.

Meh, I just looked at where the "rational line" was and then crossed it a little.

So the rational line is that everybody is equal, end of story. The irriational line is that everyone is equal...or else. To me making it illegal to refer to race or gender is pretty absurd because those are physical traits tha tare immutable. If I describe you as a "guy" or a "girl" that's not discrimination, it's just an observation of physical facts. Making it illegal though, perhaps as a felony, seems ludacris. Sure it's not as "scary" as reverse-discrimination, but I think it's something that's more realistic and humorous, as well as outrageous enough not to touch any real subjects. Nobody would say that it's illegal to refer to race or gender nowadays, but there are many who would argue that reverse-discrimination already exists.

I would say the "discrimnation against [majority]" would be one of the "topics" that conservatives would address.

"Hey, did you know that anti-discrimination laws are so severe that they actually discriminate against the majority!"

But when you look at actual L++, saying that Race/Gender references are a felony is (a) probable but highly unlikely, (b) slightly humorous. Maybe not "HA HA" funny but I find it ironic, and (c) a tangible effect.

If you notice the ACTUAL issues in LCS aren't biased. They are factual.

"Deathsquads execute minor crimimnals." "A genetic strain of mutants is created for testing and research purposes."

They're not "OMG, Deathsquads R BAD!", that's up to your people to decide. They're just stating the facts. Saying that "Anti-Discrimnation is so severe that it discrimnates against white people" isn't a fact, it's an opinion. And if it IS a fact, there's no way it would exist in a L+ society as a law would have to be written along the lines of:

"5 years of jail if white, 2 years if a minority." Which would never get passed in L+. In C+ though, it's fine to say that the Laws regulate the minority as second-class citizens because that did happen and it is based upon fact. Seperate but not equal and all that jazz.

I will update the post with the felony stuff and try to tighten up the language to make it a bit more "extreme"

On another note, not every single policy needs a wacky, zany, funny end result.

I think the "Animal Rights" one is pretty funny, especially if you know your history (Caligula appointed a horse into the Roman Senate.)

The gun control forcing the police and military to use "non-lethal" force is interesting, think about how a war would be fought if one side only had tazers and tear gas :D

The Political Campaign Oversight committee would be an absolute mess, trying to oversee every single state and federal election!

I'll have to look into that when I get back from work. >.>

It can be done.  Where there is a will, there is a way. Research and development.  The good news, most civilian casualties will be a thing of the past.
The bad news.  Animals and the ecosystem around the warzone... will probably get screwed up... >.>

Non-lethal electrical stun grenades, pepper grenades, rubber grenades and sleeping gas.  High spread and high potency.  Liberally applied.  Insurgents using civilians as a defense... won't work as well.
Flash bangs too.
Darts / low-impact bullets with strong electrical charge or anesthetic.  Don't think of it as a battle...  think of it as big-game hunting!

Come to think of it... seems more interesting to develop multitude of ways to apply non-lethal force in a combat situation...  Oh how it can be abused.

Surrender peacefully or be stunned, disoriented and blinded multiple times.  If you want to fight, I'll make sure you won't die.  I'll personally make sure of that.

Only problem is the after-effect... prisoner management...  oh so many.

The idea here isn't to make the enemy die for their cause.  Its to make them suffer for their cause.

The engine no longer runs on my computer, even with a fresh install and a restart

Does manually using the mouse to resize the game window fix the problem?

No, and neither does using the SDL version. Both start with a black screen window permanently hourglassed, unresponsive, and requiring force quit.

Edit: I can still play on my OS X laptop though. This is just my desktop PC.

I haven't paid much attention to the great Liberal Crime Squad in a while, but this mod is exactly the kind of thing to lure me back.  I love playing the badguy in games, and while my Liberals get pretty close with their ultra-violence excesses, I think this could be a hilarious adaptation.  There's plenty of fodder to work with for tongue in cheek representations.  I'll be watching with interest.

Someone's never heard of the First Earth Battalion-

Quote
In LTC Channon's First Earth Battalion, the new battlefield uniform would include pouches for ginseng regulators, divining tools, food stuffs to enhance night vision, and a loud speaker that would automatically emit "indigenous music and words of peace." Warrior monks will carry the best equipment modern technology can produce into the battlefield: lightweight laser stun guns, hallucinogen mortars, acupuncture kits, dowsing rods for locating hidden tunnels and mines, etc. Rather than using bullets and munitions, Channon envisaged how this new force would attempt to first win the hearts and minds of the enemy by: using positive vibrations, carrying "symbolic animals" of peace—such as baby lambs—into hostile countries, greeting them with "sparkly eyes," and then gently place the lambs on the ground and give the enemy "an automatic hug."

I'm a little surprised I've never seen it mentioned here before.

If you have a spare moment, would you download this patch and copy it into your ToME directory, and see if that fixes the problem? Note that this patch breaks savefile compatibility.

Thank you.

whatever possessed you to represent building walls
with the same symbol as unknown space?

I didn't. You're playing the SDL version under windows.
Actually, I'm not (not playing the SDL version, but I do play under windows). But that fixed the unseen wall problem, thanks.

Overall, BGC was not well received by the ToME crowd.
that's quite a shame, we need more games like that (minus the bugs)

BTW, I know Nene can hack and Priss can blow up doors, but what do Linna and Sylia use to get into apartment buildings? (or are they not actually supposed to do that?)

...I make no promises...but it kind of looks like T3 beta might be released soon with some major bugfixes. It's been proposed that the ToME module for T3 be formally dropped, and if that happens...my modules would be likely candidates to become "official" modules that ship with the default download.

Either way, if T3 goes to beta I'll probably release a bugfix version for each of my existing modules along with a playable alpha of Crime Squad, and then develop for whichever ones generate the most player feedback.

Hack and charm are both skill based. BLowing up a door just requires a weapon to do it with. Any character can do anything provided they have the skill and/or equipment for it. You could, for example, strip the particle cannon from Priss' hardsuit and install it on one of the others. Or just buy a new one. Sylia starts with the required hardsuit design skill to do the installations. Once you've leveled a character you can spend skillpoints via the skill screen accessible via the "G"ain skill command. Also note that not all missions require forced entry. If you're not there to kill anyone, in most cases you should be able to simply use the directory to call up your client and they'll let you in.

I had my hopes up with all those very different file sizes, but no change from the existing black screen and hourglass, unfortunately.
