100 years? I were thinking more about THOUSANDS of (subjective) years.

What exactly is a "subjective year"?

And why do you assume that ED is going to be one of the things people will care about thousands of years from now? Seriously, that's a very long time.

When we're all playing Ping Pong with our minds, I think the last thing anyone is going to care about is how much people hated Chris-Chan.

Brains in cyber-jars.

Yeah, if anything, an uploaded brain will care less because vague, rose-tinted nostalgia will be replaced by flawless memory of how dull and repetitive that shit was.

The thing is that ED mostly reports on the kind of stuff that people won't care about in ten years: Really transient stuff.

That being said, I do thing it's a good snapshot of internet culture as presented by that particular group.

If they could make a serious effort to strip the porn, trolling, shock images and page-fucks out of it it could be halfway decent.  Maybe.

If they made a serious effort to strip the porn, trolling, shock images and page-fucks out of it it would be empty.

Ow man, this makes me sad.  :'( It's shitty, yes, but it's a piece of one of the earliest eras of the internet. Current day people might not put much value on it, but historians a few millennia* from now might. On top of it, I'm pretty sure there are some gems in there, and there are secondary usages for some that I know.

*subjective time
...  ::)

It is STILL one of the earliest eras of the internet, and will remain so for many decades.

...  ::)

Anyway. I don't care for that site. At all.

Subjective time is like saying 2+2 is subjectively 5.

Yeah, but time is relative! So if you were a brain in a jar traveling near the speed of light, your subjective time would be...umm...

I didn't do very well in physics.

I'll give you the porn (that's mostly just them needing money), but as for the rest... I don't think you understand the purpose of the website.

As for Armok, my guess is that he thinks that, within the relatively near future, people (well, ~posthumans~ of some kind) will be experiencing reality at a subjectively sped-up rate for some reason. Maybe he thinks we're going to overclock the human brain or something. Beats me.

The problem with the whole uploading your brain onto a computer is, even if they figure out how to transfer data from neurons to a hard drive, why would that brain on the hard drive be you?  It would just be a copy.

In other words, no, Armok.  You will never be an eternal computermind.  There may be a computermind Armok, but it won't be you, just someone who thinks just like you (And in a world where things are right and fair, there would never be two Armoks.)

(Before you read this, i just need you to know that i assume that neurons are dieing and replacing themselves. I'm probably wrong.)

You are your memory's. You are the electrons traveling in your brain. Since you have started reading this, you have shed a lot of cells. Are you the same you that you were at the start of this post?

I think it's possible, but if done as a very slow gradual replacement.
Rather than transferring your memories to a drive, you would slowly replace your brain with electronic components.
That way, the consciousness, which is the hardest (theoretically) part to transfer, would remain intact, but your brain would still be digitized.
Think of it in terms of a clone with the same memories as you.
It thinks like you, acts like you, looks like you.
In almost every way, it is you.
However, it does not perceive what you perceive.
It has a wholly separate consciousness.
If you transfer all of your memories to a hard drive, you would need to transfer the consciousness for it to really be you.
In theory, this should leave your old body a lifeless shell.
Or a soulless one, completely animalistic, with only the thoughts hardwired into the brain, such as those for reproduction and nourishment.

You don't shed a lot of brain cells.  Brain cells die and replace themselves very slowly, so slowly that up until last year or so they didn't even know they could replace themselves.
