custom workshops!!!!!
« on: January 29, 2010, 06:41:43 pm »

"Custom workshops are now able to be modded in, allowing you to set up custom reactions.
These can support corpse harvested items, like shells/horns, and might use barrels/other containers."

What kind of custom workshops will you make when the new DF version comes out?

Mostly things for race-specific abilities in my upcoming mod for DF2010, since I seem to recall Toady saying custom workshops will be able to be enitity-specific in the List thread.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

A workshop that only produces elf skull chamber pots decorated with elf skin and menacing with spikes of elf bone.

Fire-safe workshop. Oh god yes. Will speed up getting to magma forging so much quicker and with so much less screwing around with stockpiles and stone prohibition.

Star jellies anybody?

EDIT: Oooh, how about a workshop that allowed you to grind any rock into sand? You would need bags obviously, but it would give your useless rocks a use!

I don't get it.  What would it do and why do you need it?

I just make magma forges out of what ever's lying around.

Floodgates, mechanisms and anything else. Getting magma to your forges is just the beginning.

Ah.  I usually tap for traps from a different place than where I tap for forges.

Anyway, as far as what I can think of for custom workshops, I'd probably make something that would allow creation in bulk of extractable vermin.  Some sort of cloning machine, perhaps.

I will devise a Sand Millstone, which allows you to grind rocks into sand.  Not sure if the reactions will allow for appropriate colored sand easily, but that would be a nice touch.  No Sand Quern, though; hand-milling rocks into sand would take far, far too long.

Also on the priority list: an Earthenware Workshop.  Kaolinite (or other clay stone types) + water, allows you to construct Soft Clay items.  Can also be fired in a Kiln to make Hard Clay items (if the reactions are flexible enough for that; if not, I'll make an Earthenware Kiln and Magma version instead for Hard Clay items).

I like this idea, but I'd want to apply it to other types of stone. I've been wanting to make a well from Cinnabar blocks, a lead chain and a pitchblende bucket.  :D

You need the bucket to be made from lead, and the chain from pitchblende, lead only affects it if it touches the water :P.

Or if you wanted to be especially amusing/evil, you could find some way to refine the potassium out of feldspars like microcline and make the bucket out of that.  Pure potassium + water = BOOM.
