A group of coworkers and our spouses is going to Gen Con this August in steampunk attire. Here's what I've got so far. I would like to trade this vest in for a double breasted, replace most or all of the visible buttons with brass, and maybe place some strategic rivets.

I'm missing lots of accessories (top hat, gloves, goggles), but I'm getting closer.

A group of coworkers and our spouses is going to Gen Con this August in steampunk attire. Here's what I've got so far. I would like to trade this vest in for a double breasted, replace most or all of the visible buttons with brass, and maybe place some strategic rivets.

I'm missing lots of accessories (top hat, gloves, goggles), but I'm getting closer.

You need a white shirt, comrade. Victorian era people had their shirts either white or striped at most - definitely not maroon.

Since you'll be wearing a waistcoat, the shirt needn't fit perfectly in the body, but watch the sleeves - too long and they just look silly, too short and they evoke Thom Browne. Ideally, the sleeves of a shirt should hit about half an inch below the wrist and not make any folds if your arms are straight. And don't wear a button-down collar, these things were first made long after the Victorian age ended.

Thanks for the offer, but part of the draw for me is just seeing what I can find. All of the stuff in my picture came from Goodwill and a local "antique" mall.

Plus, I'm planning on modifying some or all of my suit. I wouldn't feel right doing that to a new article of clothing, even if it didn't cost very much.

I seem to recall that Victorians loved the everliving shit out of colors in their attire. You just don't see that because people were misled by how the pigments on stuff in museums lost the vividness.
