How do I attack!?

Just send ships to an enemy system.

I thought they weren't attacking.

For attacking, as long as your opponent doesn't have a worrisome amount of range or speed technology, it doesn't always make sense to attack his big industry and economic centers that have lots of units. Since people tend to spread economy around (Since it is cheaper), just leave a decent force as defense where your territory connects to hers and then have a larger number of smaller task forces attack small, undefended planets that have economic points.

When you take planets with economy, you get $10 for each point in economy spent on that planet, and then its destroyed. So you are at once taking out your enemies source of income and gaining more money yourself. Eventually she will have to leave her defensive stance and go hunt your small groups, at which point you strike.

If they have more speed than you, this strategy won't work as well. Also, the big risk factor is that fleets are expensive at $25 a pop, and if you have a lot flying around with small, easily to destroy fleets, if she somehow surprises you and gets your fleets, you will lose a sizable investment.

Those are my thoughts so far.

If we are... I'd ask you do speed first...  I can do either scanner or weapon next... up to you...

We can eat up orange guy early on.

I'll have some trouble with logistics until I get my tech up a bit...   only way 'out' of my area at this tech level is through orange guy.

I'll do the Speed research first and than start with scanning.

I'm also trying to get an alliance with the red guy, so I can concentrate on orange, and don't have to worry about my back.
Well my first turn was more economic/research, so tell me when you plan on attacking, so I can build up my army.

@Mindmaker: It looks like you can establish a decent foothold around your area with lots of planets/systems.  With a 'natural' border.

As for war?  It starts when my expansion demands it.  I am not going to sit idly by, twiddling my thumbs once I secure my foothold in my own area.  when its pretty clear what I need to do....

I don't know about that. Its hard to wage war on all fronts, you're going to need to make some tentative friends for a small bit. Thats what I've been doing or trying to do.
