Their argument at the moment is pretty much a textbook example of the 'escalating shouting match' defense that Scum who get found out often attempt.
The really interesting thing however, now that i pay attention instead of faffing about, is neither one has attempted to bail out of the argument and hit me for the quickhammer, despite the fact that they
both had the opportunity right then and there. Either one could have easily justified hammering me and gotten away scott-free, yet neither did.
That's why i'm only FoSing at the moment, while their argument looks rather scummy, this concerns me greatly, and i have a horrible gut feeling that the reason i did not get quickhammered is because all the scum were already on me.
dorf springs to mind the most ovbiously, as he apparantly came out of nowhere, buried a vote for me in amongst a bunch of highly simplistic and mostly useless 'reasoning', but two particular sections of his post really stand out for me;
Neruz can't be town, can he?
This, this here worries me greatly. This is the old rhetorical question, a way of making a statement without actually making a statement, he then further follows with;
I'm sorry, Neruz, but there is no way you are town.
This is so textbook it's painful, the rhetorical question followed by the statement, and note that it's not 'i think Neruz is scum' but rather 'Neruz
cannot be town', an absolute. This is literally the first chapter on 'how to persaude people', the rhetorical question gets them thinking along the right lines, then while they're still thinking "Can he be town?" you hit them with an absolute "No he cannot be town."
Ironically, this is also why the 'innocent until proven guilty' rule applies in the courts. Once you start using arguments like this that start from the other side, assuming the person is guilty\scum and then eliminating all other possibilities, you're influencing people to follow you, and influencing people to follow you is very, very scummy.
dorf also gets another +1 scumpoint for landing the fourth vote on me.
Before i vote for him though, i'd like to see his response to this post.
