Yes, everything is fleets, go to the fleets list and find your ship there. You will want to split it from its current fleet into a new one then give orders to that new fleet...

If only you could ram. Mass produce those ships and rename them kamikaze ships, then send them in en masse.

if only the game provided specialised systems for bombarding enemy craft with many tiny, explosive-filled ships :P

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Is their an easy way to calculate/estimate a ships top speed using approximate weight of the finished ship and the total EP and number of engines? It appears to me that their might be some diminishing returns involved.

Yeah, I think you ideally want ~25% of a ship's weight to be engine before diminishing returns kicks in

Is there some sort of diminishing returns function? Or is it just that the engines have to push their own mass and lots of little engines are less efficient than a few big ones and weak engines can't push their own mass as fast as a powerful engine could push its own mass along with lots of other things besides?

I'm reconsidering my 'No beams' policy after the ayys launched a beam cruiser which is cheerfully annihilating my brand new fleet as they went to restock on missiles

How did the beam cruiser get close enough to missile ships to blow them up? The problem could be losing the speed war more than choice of weapons.

It's also worth noting that not having beams, and having beams that are out-ranged by your faster opponent are basically the same thing, except one of those involves wasting space on a reactor which might get shot and explode, not to mention the space you need to devote to the beam weapons themselves.

Ah, you're talking about missiles.  I remember a few pages back somebody actually created a missile the size of a small fighter.

Fast ship Vs fleet with one ship with an outdated engine.  Annoyingly kept exactly 20kkm outside the range of the gauss PD ship

Should have let the one slow ship die then, so that the others may live.

what is a good rule of thumb for number of engines for front line ships and fighters?

Like I said, it was an ambush. I only worked out they had a slow ship in the post-battle
