How do I send something through a mass driver?  This game really needs more documentation...

It's under mining/maintenance, near the top right. Make sure that both planets have mass drivers first, else it won't work.

Also, how horrible is this ship-
Amazon class Missile Frigate    2,450 tons     128 Crew     328.4 BP      TCS 49  TH 90  EM 60
2448 km/s     Armour 5-16     Shields 2-400     Sensors 10/1/0/0     Damage Control Rating 2     PPV 2
Maint Life 19.64 Years     MSP 1168    AFR 24%    IFR 0.3%    1YR 6    5YR 86    Max Repair 50 MSP
Magazine 66

Ion Engine M1 (2)    Power 60    Fuel Use 100%    Signature 45    Armour 0    Exp 5%
Fuel Capacity 60,000 Litres    Range 44.1 billion km   (208 days at full power)
Gamma R400/14 Shields (1)   Total Fuel Cost  14 Litres per day

Size 1 Missile Launcher (2)    Missile Size 1    Rate of Fire 15
ICBM Launch Control (1)     Range 50k km    Resolution 50

Thermal Sensor TH2-10 (1)     Sensitivity 10     Detect Sig Strength 1000:  10m km

I'm not exactly the greatest Aurora player, but...

  • The ship could use more speed. 2500km/s is pretty slow, though as a missile boat it might not need that speed.
  • You need to make your own Launch Control. The ICBM one is terrible, to say the least. Making a new one will reduce the size/weight of the ship, and will give you more range for when you upgrade your basic missiles.
  • You'll either want to remove the thermal sensors and create a dedicated sensor ship, or add some EM Sensors and an active sensor for detection.

Oh, and would you mind posting your missile stats as well?

Up until the Armament part it's not horrible at those tech levels, kind of a lot of maint supplies but ehh that's nothing.  But 328 BP to put a grand total *TWO* size 1 missile launchers in the air?  That's extremely expensive for that little punch.  And the fire control is worthless - all you'll get is 1 round of self-defensive fire at 0 range, maybe.  It won't even be able to protect another ship.  And you'll need a separate sensor ship with active sensors, but that's normal as long as you're planning for it - that Thermal sensor you're using is only for spotting stuff it can't be used for targetting.

Missile Size: 1 MSP  (0.05 HS)     Warhead: 1    Armour: 0     Manoeuvre Rating: 20
Speed: 18000 km/s    Endurance: 48 minutes   Range: 51.4m km
Cost Per Missile: 0.8
Chance to Hit: 1k km/s 360%   3k km/s 120%   5k km/s 72%   10k km/s 36%
Materials Required:    0.25x Tritanium   0.29x Gallicite   Fuel x500

Development Cost for Project: 80RP

Also, what size missiles would be best for ship to ship combat?

depends on tech and doctrine I guess.
but usually between 5 and 10.
above ten there are multi warhead missiles, or long range multi stage missiles.
of course, nothing stops you from building a size 100 ship sized missile. might not be cost effective however.

Good lord. Your missiles have a thousand times greater range than your missile control. That's horrible.

Whatever size works, really. You just need to balance size/to-hit/warhead/logistics/ammo capacity, that's all. :P

make it split into 5.

make those split into 5.

make those split into 5.

make those split into 5.

suddenly, 3125 missiles!

Of course the original missile is the size of a small battlecruiser, but who cares about that! Maximum missile spam, go!

inspiring useless missiles because they are awesome.

Then again, if the enemy has a HUUUUUUUUUGE ship with uber shields, and a large number of missile defences...

Then my missiles will block out the nearest star, whatever and wherever it might be.

If he does, he'll be contractually obligated to ensure that it finishes off by launching a single AMM.

Incidentally, I find that I can usually strike a good balance with size-4 missiles, regardless of TL.

You now make me want to design an insanely fast Size 1 missile with a range of 0.1m km. I will encase this in a slightly larger missile which is a bit slower with longer range. Repeat ad nauseum until the entire thing resides inside a Size 100 missile that travels at 100 km/s but has a range measured in LY.

Now that's a truly dwarfy megaproject for Aurora.  :D

How do I get my oilers to stop twiddling their thumbs in the Proximi Centuri system and refuel my fleet of freighters carrying valuable duranium stuck over in the Sol system?  They aren't listed on the "Transfer fuel manually" button at all, and when I select the freighter fleet in the task force menu, there isn't a refuel button.

Tanker is selected in the ship design, right? And you can transfer fuel using F6 under the miscellaneous tab, if the ships are occupying the same position.

If it makes you feel any better, I pretty much just jumped straight in and I now have ships stripping fuel from Saturn and others carpet-bombing every solid body that I don't plan on inhabiting.
