And don't submit bug reports after you've edited the database, etc.

Yeah. We don't want Steve getting upset again and changing the passwords again.

Where's Flying Dice's signature when you need it?

Nanananaaaaa!~

I'll try it :)

Edit: drat! It didn't work, maybe my Screen is actually retarded, maybe when I get a new one, I'll try this game out again :)

Out of curiosity, what resolution are you trying to play it on?

My resolution is 1024 x 768

This is what Windows 7 tells me, so I can only go by this.

Steve has said he's working more on newtonian aurora, aurora II is basically shelved atm.

Don't expect a release of Newtonian Aurora or Aurora II for... well, years. It'll be released when it gets released, but there will never be a schedule or expected time for it.

Steve has said that he expects the first release of newtonian to be in months rather than years, but yes Aurora II is a long way off.

He went back to sleep again several weeks back. He works in fits.

I'm really looking forward to newtonian... If I'm going to play a hard science fiction setting, it had better have newtonian movement in space.

I wonder if Newtonian will let me paint targets with a relatively-stationary capital ship, then strafe my enemies with relatively relativistic fighters.  They'd be almost impossible to lock onto, but would have a super simple firing solution given to them.

Otoh, you don't need to lock onto a relativistic enemy.  Just throw out a cloud of flak.

Otooh, if they are just trying to ram, a front-armored sabot loaded with maneuvering thrusters doesn't give a fuck about your flak.

You can already do this, unless you mean linking the weapons on the fighters to a fire control on the capital ship instead of just an active sensor on the capital ship, and it's pretty unlikely this is going to change.

I don't really know what problem you're having, then. I'm also playing on a 1024x768 resolution screen with no issues after following those steps.

Wasn't it clarified a while ago that Newtonian Aurora/Aurora II are different names for the same thing? But either way, looking forward for an alpha of Newtonian, even if it is hardly playable.

Nah, I'm pretty sure they're different. Newtonian Aurora is going to run off the same VB6 database thing we've got now. Aurora II was a planned rewrite of current Aurora in a more modern programming language (C# I believe). There's some similarity in the design goals of both (no jump points, etc), but I think they're still distinct projects in Steve's mind. I'll try to find a post where he clarifies that.

EDIT:  From Aurora forums
Quote from: Steve
Quote from: voknaar
Just a question in regards to the features you have posted about Newtonian aurora: Will any of the new aspects of Newtonian aurora be ported over to Aurora 2? Like the equations mechanics or balancing. Because I think it would be good if Aurora 2 would be a mixture of both Aurora and Newtonian Aurora, from what I have read about both games.  :)
At this point I don't even know if Newtonian Aurora will actually work :). I hope so but it is an experiment as to what is possible. If it turns out to be playable then I'll make a decision then on what to include in an eventual Aurora II. That is a long time in the future at the moment though.

Steve

So Aurora II may be newtonian, but it isn't Newtonian Aurora  ;D

Even better, then!  :D

Because while Newtonian sounds fun, I also like the current system, so that would be the best of both worlds, assuming both of them ever get to a playable alpha state.
