Okay, I played a new game and didn't see a single npr after checking out all jump points, so I went to sm and orderd it to make one... now I reexplored all the systems I can reach and all planets on it, but didn't find anything... besides this very strange cluster of missles that don't move and just sit there... mines?

(Oh, side question: How do I tow something? I might build a missle base or something sometime and put it out next to a jump gate with hostiles behind it)

They are probably sensor missiles since they are so large..

you build a tug boat with lots of engines since it needs them to move a much larger ship once it latches on.

You put a ship to ship tractor beam on it with lots of engines and fuel and your all set. it latches onto the selected ship and fly's whereever you direct it to go.

sorry bout that,

Go to the F6 screen press the misc tab, select tractor link drop down and all ships in system should be listed there to tractor, you then select and press create link button.

I think im gonna put this annoying shit on the wiki.

I throw me at your mercy bay12 and seek your eternal wisdom. Here are 3 Designs for my new start. I started with one massiv shipyard (32 000 tons) and just had to use it...

Anyway, I made these classes:

Templar - Main line Ship, 10 000 tons   5xsize 10 missle lauchers
(3 variations of that, one for em one for active and one for thermal, each with the best possible sensor for there class and matching weapons)

Crusader - Destroyer, with cannon layout for 750,000 to 500 000 range area and a
               80x Size 4 missle laucher box set with very fast rockets for 450 m

Hospitaller - A massiv beast that causes errores each time I just look at it (and its not even built yet) A massiv dead star like lazer and a set of size 50 missle lauchers with there own special package.

It also scans and resupplys everyone in a massiv area.
The rockets of choice can be massiv long range, single doom rockets to destroy other super heavys or cute little things like a rocket the explodes into 20x rockets after a certain distance. Also support unmanned stations with massiv sensors.

I had an idea yesterday of seeding single-use OWP's around jump points I wanted to defend and giving them nothing except massive box launchers filled with missiles which split into multiple missiles for a single huge strike which saturates point defense systems. It would be amusing and probably quite impressive... ONCE.

Then maybe a ring of fighter bases which would use the delay caused by the massive missile strike to launch fighters into range.

I am staying away from using fighters for now, but I try it again sometime... i want to test these designs in combat! I build another Super fast ship (15 000 km/s, under 10 000 tons) and hope it'll prove usefull in shoting down smaller things, something my other ships may lack I figured.

I would just like to state I just lost my first Battleship I ever built, weighing in around 28000 ton's she went down in a ball of flames due to auto targetting fail.

ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

turns out that auto targetting system works like shit for Point Defense against missiles when you have multiple fire control and pd weapons for each one. :( The ship had 20 lasers on turrets mounted that could have fended off atliest 10 missiles per wave and she went down against 4 missiles a wave :(

works decent i guess for missiles though...

Also the answer to our armour question is that the tech description is OLD and needs to be updated sigh... thats the 2nd tech ive found thats outdated so far.

so Armour works just like in the tutorials missiles do spread out damage lasers dig deeper and not as big of a hole. etc etc. once your down past the armour components are getting hit.

How do I asign a missile to a laucher?

I figured with 80 equal little rocket shaped thing and 80 little boxes that say "put rocket in" it would figure itself out...

ThtblovesDF: I don't recommend that 1x4 ship turret setup. If you plan to engage fast moving objects with that, especially missiles, it's inefficient. Missiles have 1hp, ignoring armor which is what mesons do. Having just 1 turret with 4 barrels is inefficient as you'd likely end up overkilling 1 missile and not being able to shoot at anything else coming to hit you within the next 4 seconds.

I think you would get much better performance with 2x2 with 2 point defense type fire controls. It can do the same job of the 1x4 (all 4 targeted at the same thing) but is versatile enough to split duties to shoot down two targets at once when it comes down to it. Really, your tracking speed and turning speed is high enough where it is unlikely you will repeatedly miss the same missile thrown at you by the AI.

p.s: your power plant is too powerful for that ship. Might want to look into that.

yea definately you have a

Beam Core Anti-matter Power Plant Technology PB-1 AR-8 (1)     Total Power Output 128

for what looks like a 24 power requirement on your weapon.

ALSO, supposedly everyone just uses a bunch of small power plants to acheive high power outputs, since you have less chance of a giant ship killing explosion / and losing all your power.

Hey I figured there is 4x28, so I used the cloest power design i had to that.

Thanks a lot for the input!

What are the upsides of using a turret instead of just the weapon? I guess that it acts on its own and one can target more then one thing?

I'm out of wealth atm so can't produce, BUT i killed my first enemy :D :D :D

Sure, it was just 1200 tons and mine was 10 000 tons of raw firepower, but still! FIRST BLOOD!
