I classify a corvette the same as a gunboat, under 1kT. I enjoyed homeworld alot.
Sometimes gunboats/missileboats grow to 1.5kT but never beyond 2.
Destroyers have missiles and are supporting capital ships to bigger ships such as battleships.
cruisers are like destroyers but sacrificing armour for speed.
battleships likewise to dreadnougts.
Frigates are ship of the line and tend to hover between destroyers and battleships in size and tend to sport mostly long range weapons.

It is a mess really. :)

Hahaha! That doesn't make any sense!  :D

edit: Oooooh! I see! You're using the Homeworld-style denominations. I'm more used to "normal" conventions.

Dreadnought > battleship > battlecruiser > cruiser > destroyer > frigate > raft > flotation ring > corpse

I think I'm going to stop playing my 4.91 campaign (only 75 systems and high inter connectivity)
and try a game with a similar population of systems, but with connectivity set to be very local and with small deviation.
Hoping to create a more linear galactic map with less 'backdoor' jumppoints and more chokepoints and loops that are less random.
Might create a too linear universe...like in Perimeter... creating a string of worlds.

Greiger: It wasn't the class that we had a concern about, if you notice. It's that for a ship with just one weapon, it was 10000 tonnes.

Oh wow...1 weapon?  I can stick the biggest weapon I have (30cm Plasma Cannon) on a 3000 ton frigate if I wanted.  And probably still have room to spare...

*looks again*
Oh.  That is one hellova fast meson turret.  Even if yer just using it for PD I don't think I ever saw even precursor missiles go faster than 35000km/s.  You'll never have to worry about missing I guess...

I was like "Uiiii high numbers and low weight! *types high turn speed in*"

Also I very intresting is that you can make missiles with 0.000X in something...

I now got a super small missile with size 0.2, packing 16 of these into a size 4 and packing a few of those in a size 24... fun :D :D :D

Oh yea, I did that a bit myself.  I had a size 25 that would split into 30 or 40 some tiny little 1 damage missiles.

I thought Steve ended up deciding to classify that as an exploit and made it impossible to design a missile under size 1 though.   Oh well,  Just means I can still make my Synaptic bombs for bombers to overwhelm PD whenever one of my capship missiles are about to hit.

I still have trouble beliveing a size one warhead doing 11 damage is mid tech  :-\

I knew internal armor blocks mesons  ;D

dmg 10 missile warheads are only like 50,000 or 60,000 RP.

considering the game has research up into 3,000,000 research points, id say it was low to mid tech.

And compared to the players own ship designs which had fairly good tech at the time, I wouldnt change my designation of that.

Can someone link where Internal Armor blocks meson, instead of preventing or arresting secondary explosions?

Also, i find shields to be useful even at the low tech. There comes a point that low tech shields are lighter and cheaper then another layer of armor.

Mesons bypass armor. If they get stopped by internal armor, I'm going to plaster that stuff on the outside of my ships ;)

Oh, that topic.

I read that topic. I dont think they are over powered at all. Since you have to be nearly point blank range to use it.

Nah, I'm pretty sure internal armor stops it. This is because internal armor doesn't act like the normal armor in that all internal armor does... (to my understanding) is that it lowers the percentage chance for the internal thing to get destroyed / damaged. Unlike regular armor which is layered and stuff.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong. No clue.
