Provide error message: No I can't, I am on a different computer and don't have it installed here. Might be able to in a few hours.

Clean install: yes, its a complete reinstall.

Yeh but it's not like there is a limit to how much you can build on a planet. If you build a financial center, why not put all of those financial centers on earth where there is more defense?

Maybe a limit to how much can be built and how big a population you can have should be implemented...because right now, it's possible to have 10 trillion people. And earth can't support that many.

With external resources, there is no limit to how many a planet can hold, and as well as you drop all notion of personal space.

There are many reason to expand and many reason to turtle. There is no wrong play style.

Service industry grows expotencially, you get more free workers on a colony without a low population then compared to the free work force of a high population.

Trade also grows with more points of interest.

I can testify that it doesn't, at least not now. I don't see what good emailing the db file would do considering its a clean install that hasn't even run once. I'm on windows 7 so I'll try using admin permissions next time I try to run it.

Strange, I am on windows 7 and the game ran first try with no coaxing or patching. Have you tried a complete wipe and fresh install?

Windows 7 64 bit here as well

I have UAC off, and installed the game to c:Games\aurora

never had a problem at install worked great.

2 very good points.

Does trade only increase the wealth you get? Or does it have any other benefits? I think it affects infrastructure transportation, but i don't see much with spices...unless those reduce the amount of people needed for services.

Another point, population growth for large populations is very slow where pop growth for smaller populations is much faster.

No, 2% for 1 billion people is 20000000, 10% of 1 million is 100000

large populations grow faster.

Hm, well I was just repeating what I had read. I haven't had a 'large' population yet. :)

See my earlier posts in this thread about why having colonies will boost your pop growth.

In addition you civ shipping lines will produce and deliver infrastructure to your colonies from thin air, allowing them to grow.  This saves the minerals and industry  time of building it yourself. Civ shipping lines will also move pop from large pops to smaller ones, which saves micro management.

Wow my mind is getting bounced back and forth. Since colonies don't start with population moving 10000 people from a 2% growth planet to a 10% growth planet will give more growth....wow how did i miss that. Yeah colonies give faster population growth.

......

Unless you transport half of your 1 billion people to 20 different colonies, then once again Colonies grow faster.

your population would grow faster if you continously had your population spreading from the core worlds to new colones.

I like how all this migration happens automatically if you have a nice healthy civilian sector.

except it doesnt really happen automatically between newly found and colonized star systems.... i think its fixed in 5.0 but civilians wont go through jumpgates sadly if.... they are around before the jumpgate is?? something like that.

Check you don't have civilian contracts up, they can stuff the civ sector, including jump gate travel for some reason. I would swear that in my last game they used the gates. I am a few game months from being able to check this again. Without contracts it is difficult to see how you could force them to take a jump gate route over a local shorter one, so I expect to have trouble establishing things either way.

Well then, like dwarf fortress, the possibility of the unimplemented/buggy feature excites me.

It looks like I needed to run it as admin. Now that I got it running I'll check out some tutorials and see if I can get something going.
