Wouldn't "swarm" be "roj" :P

Well, I get it from online English-Croatian translators, so I wouldn't know.

I do what most rougelike programmers do, make an anagram or just scramble the words until they like something the human mouth can pronounce, while adding an extra letter when necessary.

I usually use my real name or Archangel.

"Hero Protagonist"

It's spelled Hiro. Assuming it's the reference I think it was.

In single player rpgs, I usually use the default name or my name. If it's not my first playthough of the game, usually BOOBS or POOP or something, for shits and giggles, because I am six years old. Multiplayer games are usually just pronounceable gibberish, like, I don't know, kinseti.

Just take the first syllable of your first, middle, and last name, jam them together in reverse order, and add 'oth' or 'lhu' to the end, toss in some random 'H'es, and you have your name if you were an elder god!

Also, to get a fantasy name, just spell yours backwards!

For example, my middle name becomes Nahtanhoj and Henry becomes Yrneh.

Nekik Usith for a dwarf/fighter, Frosty as a general name, and Alyn or Daryll for a mage.

Also, to get a fantasy name, just spell yours backwards!

For example, my middle name becomes Nahtanhoj and Henry becomes Yrneh.

That doesn't work for me.

It's a very bad, short, and ugly name.
I don't like it very much. Let's just leave it at that.

I guess that makes me Inaluk Recneps.

Also I just realized one of my full name's anagrams is 'Euclidean Sparkler Annex', obviously a place which cannot exist (by dwarven logic) in DF.

I have to make my real name more conventional in order to fit in some games. Things like getting rid of the silent 'o' and stuff.
Also, add some y's in there and mix a bit around and we've got... Pyrir. Or Piityr, which is pronounced the same. I like it because it's like my name, and will fit in virtually any genera. Although for a change of pace, I went with "Mack" for my knife-wielding Fallout 3 character and never looked back.

Sometimes I go with a He-man-ish combination of masculine syllables. Start with something like Va, with a good "v" like Vulcan or Violence. Then something scottish... Ness? Loch Ness? Yes. What's manlier than a giant icy lake in scotland full of prehistoric monsters? Then... godliness; specifically, a sun-god. Something that sounds like the name of some anchient sun god. Maybe Sa. Simple, guttural, almost... YES.... put those together and you've got yourself one manly name.

Anyway, I agree that part of the Name Your Hero thing is about identifying with the character. However, it's not always necessary; Half-life's Gordon Freeman was a more visceral character than The Nereverine or The Imperial Champion in TES. This is because you get called Gordon, people talk to him (well, at him), and you hear them. But nobody actually says your name in TES...

Also, Inaluk's pretty awesome for a name if you ask me.
Itesnik? Knarf? I didn't realize there where any Franks left. I thought they died out in the '70s. Maybe they're more populous back east.

Hey dude, I'm from the far west! But yeah, Frank's a total old-man-name, I can agree with that.
