The Axe of Impaling (succesion game)
« on: November 30, 2009, 02:51:08 am »

Df version 40d

Using mod (s) : spellcraft  v. 0.55
orcs, I removed [trap_avoid]
moar megabeastz, I removed all [trap_avoid]
obsidian mod
training weapons
molten rocks

Download the raw -> objects folder here: http://www.mediafire.com/?ygm2qj1tttn
Then just copy and paste it over your raw -> objects folder.

Using graphics pack (not sure if this matters) : Mike Mayday

Embarking with:

Proffesions:
2 miners,
woodcutter,
carpenter that is also architect,
farmer that has brewing,
farmer that has plant gathering,
and mason who is also mechanic.

Animals:
4 dogs and 2 cats

Items:
2 picks,
1 axe,
1 anvil,
60 drink (20 of three different types),
20 plump helmets,
2 turtles (for moods),
5 dimple cup spawn (for cloth industry),
10 pig tail seeds (for cloth industry),
30 plump helmet spawn

Location:
Chasm,
volcano,
underground river,
adamite,
trees,
sand,
what more do we need?

Fort Name:
Tanlitast, Ticktorch

Here's how it works:
A player plays a turn, from spring to one year to spring of the next. after the "Spring has arrived" sign apears, they zip the save and post it here.
Uploade it, with rapidshare or media fire for example.
Then the next player in the list plays their turn.
Everybody has a week to complete their turn.
If they don't complete it in time, the next player can pick up where they left and play through that year and their own year, or they can start from the previous save.
No sealing up the fort for longer than two seasons at any one time.
You may only have the fort sealed up for two seasons total in a year, even if you separate it into separate seasons.

Readers (and players) can request a dwarf if they want.
Give profession, name, and gender.

Every player should write a narrative after their turn to explain what they did.
They don't have to if they don't want to though

You can not use utilities. Only acceptance to this is if I give you permission. Or if you want to use foreman, manager, or therapist (those tools are a quick way to deal with labor).

I can start taking players now.

Ok, here's the background story:

A dwarf was walking through the halls of a mountain home.
She emerged into a legendary dining room.
There, sat the king. He was eating a legendary lavish meal out of a legendary adamite bowl.

“What is it?”, grumbled the king without looking up.

“You majesty, the inter-dimensional travel machine has been completed. It is made fully out of adamite, powered by vast reserves of lava, has the greatest underground river diverted through its water wheels, and the windmills are flying out off their holes. She is ready to launch.”

“Good, good. Fetch me the project manager.”

The dwarf scurries out of the room, and a taller-than-usual male enters.

“You rang, your majesty?”

The king finally looks up. “Why, yes I did. I want you to tell me where we can launch this machine.”

“Into two worlds.  One is a human only world and looks very dull. The other, I think you’ll be quiet pleased with.”

“Spit it out already!”

“It is pretty much like our world, but newer. It has plenty of resources, and adamite. However, it has many more megabeasts, and a new civilization even; Orcs.”

“Interesting, send a 7 dwarf expedition team and a supply wagon to that world. But first choose a suitable site.”

The other dwarf bows and says ,“Your majesty.” He scurries out of the room to prepare for the departure.

Several days later, a group of 7 stout dwarfs stand assembled outside of a giant rock palace.

“This is the machine you will be traveling. You are set to embark upon an area known as ‘The Axe of Impaling’. You will have to brave many dangers in this new world, the best of luck to you.”

The dwarfs climb into the machine and they pull the lever that connects the machine with power.
A deep rumbling echoes through the mountain. Boulders fall, cliffs collapse.
The machine falls through a gaping hole that appears in the base of the mountain. Gust of heat woosh up from the depths of the world.

And this is how the tale of Tanlitast, Ticktorch began.

That's a huge map mang. Are you sure you won't be bothered by the FPS? Because I think most people will be...

Thats a good point, but it was the only way I was able to get all the features. Yes, I did spend hours playing with the seed.

I don't worry too much about it for a few reasons.

A) DF is so fun I don't even notice it's at 1 fps.

B) I used the gfps trick thing, so it only dips below 10 fps on a 9 x 9 map with over 100 dwarfs and countless unleashed animals.

C) Players can chain up the burgers cats.

D) If layers complain now, before it actually starts getting fun...Some one can give me a seed for a location that has all the features that this one includes.

If you have any tips, or a very good seed, let me know.
Anyone for that matter.

If ya search the forums theres a map called dwarf heaven with EVERY feature, even a GCS.

not sure if your mods would affect it, but its worth a try.

And, they came. My fingers tingled, my nose twitched and my toes tickled... they came around the corner, over my bridge... Into my courtyard... Onto my trade depot...

Then everything near it exploded in a cloud of blood.

Thank you, but it would effect the mods. Most of them require a regen.

If it comes with a seed...I could use that.

Thanks anyway.

Edit: HAS SEED!

Ok, I guess I can regen.

Do I have everybody's consent?

I'd love to participate. But it is will be my first succession game (luckly caught one at actual start :>), you may want consider that fact.
Read up on the mods you has mentioned and found them fun.
PS you can check presense of HFS without reveal.exe setting [SHOW_EMBARK_OTHER:ALWAYS] in init.cfg. It will be shown as light blue tile on local embark screen.
PPS i have gened world with 4x4 spot with pipe+underground river+chasm+hfs+brook, but i am clueless about way to extract seed from it.

A few things.

1) I have continued using the 9 x 9 embark for now. (my have been 10 x 10, check the screen)

2) Set up the plant cloth industry by Autumn, so traders may get rich.

3) Cool, I'll add you to the list.

4) I think I did enable that, I enabled all the other ones for sure.

5) I don't know either...Did you save the worldgen parameters if you were using design new parameters?

6) So, everybody. What shall we do? Use this big world with guaranteed fps problems or use a smaller world?

I found seed.
Here it comes.
Seed -- http://yfrog.com/jdseedsj
Site itself -- http://yfrog.com/jdsitepoj (trees are in other biome, no flux :<, wont be a problem on other hand, considering Obsidian mob)
About size, i'd prefer smaller world. 3x3-6x6 is way to go in my opinion.
Big world brings not only fps problems, but boring management of Urist McHunter, who decided to kill Feral Hoary Marmot in Far Away Land etc.

Thank you, then I'll be regening it tonight. I hope to complete my turn by tomorrow.

Anybody have any questions, comments, want to play, dwarf requests?

Is everybody ok using that world specified?

Oh, and btw...
Go to your df directory.
Then data -> init
Open up the file world_gen.txt
Now pastes its contents into a spoiler tag in a post.
If you can, paste only the section that has [TITLE:MEDIUM]

So if you can do that too...

Has a volcano too! All civs can access you also.

I'll start playing my turn tonight.

The Orcs just say "no trade" on the embark screen so they won't trade...but will they attack us. I've never seen that before.

Neither have I, but the traders have come. Because of dwarven logic, the trade depot wasn't built in time and the traders didn't bring wagons.

Yes, my turn is almost finished. But it's already 11:30 pm, and I am afraid I won't finish the turn tonight.

Posted background story in first post btw.  :)
