A new version every 3 hours, if more programmers followed your example... ;p
Would it be possible for you to port it to Windows, I assume you're using Linux?

Really sorry, but I don't seem to be able to get SDL cross-compiling to work.  However, someone out there with a cc and a 'Doze box could probably do a port fairly easily... anyone want to do it?  Come on, there's plenty of developers on b12 who make 'Doze software, one of them could port, right?

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I can't see any of the pictures.
Yeah, my website is now offline because I'm no longer on a network where I'm visible to the outside world.  (End of term at Uni, I'm now back home behind a crappy home router)
The pictures however can still be found at the wiki page, and the download link (to DFFD) still works.

When I launch it, it goes up to "Warning! Df designer is still Alpha!" and exits.

... if any of you have C compilers, try recompiling it, see if you can fix anything, debug, whatever

I think I fixed it... by piling on all the DLLs I could find, in all the latest versions.

So download, try, see if it works.  Let there be awesome... and was there awesome?  Only you guys can tell me! :)

I like it.  ;D

Anyway here are a few ideas for you:
*run the help text at startup (or have a persistent keys menu that you can close)
*make it look more like DF ascii
*full range of buildings and features
*ability to import maps from DF to work with

Of course the first thing is still to make sure it's working. :D Hope to see some cool stuff from this in the future.

* run the help text at startup
Next version does this.

* make it look more like DF ascii
To get a DF-ascii like plan of your designs, you can use the Export Floor Plans (key 'x').
I might add a DF-ascii view mode later, to complement the colour-tiles and isometric views.

* full range of buildings and features
This is going to be a gradual thing, especially as a lot of things are hard with the current interface (the colour tiles).  If there are particular buildings/features people want, just say so.

* ability to import maps from DF to work with
This is probably not going to happen until someone gets a decent bolt-on memory-hacking library going.  Like Khazad's meant to be, but that's not finished yet.

Glad you like it :)

Now out: DF Designer 0.9 (see top of thread for download linkies)

Handling for BIG maps (up to 256x256x64), scrolling around.  Minimap (gets covered up by the console, so turn console off to see the minimap).
General fixes and tweaks.

I can confirm the windows version working on Windows 7 x64

Would it be possible for a mode where instead of colours you get their original ASCII tile?

What is it about this thread and reading comprehension?

Anyway, I'll count that as two votes for that feature.
(BTW, note that 'objects' -- beds, chairs, and suchlike; the distinction being an arbitrary implementation one right now -- are already shown by their ascii tile anyway)

lessee...16*48 = 768 tiles wide maximum embark.
6*48=288 tiles wide standard embark. >,,>
Height...that's decent for most purposes. I know I have maps with 180Z to work with and some reportedly have more.

If mechanical things(windmill, waterwheel, screwpump, mechanism, axles) aren't in, then they should be- it'd be a HUGE selling point for DF engineers if you managed to add some checks useful for that sort of thing. But that may be beyond the scope of this proyekt.
