Well, let's not single out Poo too much; he wasn't the one who bumped the thread to talk about how outrageous it was that it existed.  If there's a more pointlessly obnoxious generic internet post out there than "omg how did this dumb thread get to X pages :rolleyes:" I haven't seen it.

Downsides to smoking

-shorter life
-lung cancer
-tar litterally dripping inside your lungs (go to a museum about it)
-addiction
-hundreds of dollars less a year
-yellow teeth
-sometimes you get an infection and you get a hole in your throat out your neck 

Upsides

-you zone out for half an hour and forget about all your worries....Something I do on a daily basis by reading a book or watching TV....Or playing dwarf fortress

That's actually due to larynx cancer. Which has decent survival odds, but if it relapses after the first infection requires removal of the whole larynx. After that, it's a choice between a tracheotomy, and being able to eat normally, at the cost of breathing through a hole, or a gastrotomy and being able to breathe normally, at the cost of eating through a tube poking out of your gut. Most people choose the tracheotomy.

Dwarf Urik has been annoyed by smoking lately. 

Good thing is... Dwarves don't need to worry about lung diseases because they're likely to die way before any of those even start showing symptoms.

Dwarves live happily for over a century and a half in active mines, so I suspect that they are strongly resistant to lung diseases.
Pitchblende chairs in unventilated granite rooms don't bother them either, so cancer isn't much of a bother either.
