Now, now, magma can't fix ALL problems.

On the surface it becomes lava.  Magma solves all underground problems, lava solves all above ground problems.

I did initially. Then I thought, what if your problem is that your fort is on fire? Or magma men? Or everyone's favorite variety of HFS? Those can't be solved with magma.

Yes it can. What are dwarfs ever doing on the surface? If your dwarfs are doing anything (not just concerning magma) that is not considered "subterranean" (or at least "dark") by the game then you need a hammering.

Otherwise, it fixes almost everything.

Burn some dorfs. Less dorfs makes "not enough food" into "plenty of food"
