You're asking that as though there was ever a reason not to

I spent over an hour yesterday snow-sculpting a solid base for a snowman.
I wake up this morning, want to continue it... It has been stolen.
At least the snowman thieves will have had a hard time chiseling it loose.

Ah well I'll make another.

I have two stone pillars in front of my house. I first put down a sculpture base with indention on one of them, and on top of that the first of the balls used to build a snowman. Spent an hour patting, knocking, punching and rubbing it, and finally smelt-frosting it over using my bare hands until it was a perfectly round, solid ball of ice about 40cm radius, firmly anchored to the stone pillar.

I found the thief.  It was my goddaughter from across the street. Her boyfriend dislodged the ball with a karate kick because he couldn't pull it loose with his hands. The ball is still intact, I did a good job at making an iceball.
I made them repent by making coffee for me, that'll teach them.

Despite the phonetic similarity, "Penance" and "Repentance" are not the same thing. :)

Repent is the right word though?

"feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin."

Goddamn youths
Well, at least they didn't trash it just to trash it. They wanted a headstart in making a snowman  :P

Penance is performing a task or enduring a ritualized suffering, to seek atonement for said sin.

Making you the coffee is penance, not repentance. :)

Only if it granted them absolution / atonement.

We're not there yet, the coffee was just to make them feel regret and remorse.

Got really dang mad earlier for good reasons I won't bore you with, started consoling myself with booze and angry, slow music, and then I came across a Facebook live video from a favourite musician of mine and wound up watching that for next half-hour or so, crying... well, a normal amount for his very, very sad music. I think.
Anger can be so productive! I coulda cheered myself up with, like, a workout or summat, but now thanks to ol' Arlo I just wanna lie down in a ditch with a jug of moonshine or something horrendously cliche like that. :'(
