If you're going to use cough syrup for anything, its intended purpose is probably a good call.
If you don't want the tea part, hot water with honey and lemon juice will also be helpful.

What else would cough syrup even be used for? Isn’t the only reason to use cough syrup it’s intended purpose?

Cough syrup has a long and proud history of being used for everything but coughs. Some have alcohol, and some of the stronger ones contain things like codeine. Therefore you can make drugs with it.

My grandfather was around during prohibition, and he would tell stories about how they got around it with cough syrup. They had labels on the side that said DO NOT FREEZE. WILL TURN TO ALCOHOL. Wink wink nudge nudge.

DO NOT FREEZE. WILL TURN TO ALCOHOL.

That is hilarious and I am moving it to the OOCQ thread forthwith.

Don't worry, I'm not about to follow oh-so-many of my musical idols down the unpleasant path of codeine abuse, this stuff is the third kind.
You need a prescription for that stuff over here, after all! I get nervous enough just asking for Robitussin over the counter when I actually do have the kind of cough it is intended to treat.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, lemon tea is a solid idea, I had some of that the other day already. Well, I had a slice of orange instead of lemon, since there's something wrong with our lemon tree which causes its fruit to wind up being mostly rind (any gardeners or orchard fans wanna help me out with that?), but the oranges are big 'n' juicy 'n' great.
Reckon I'll have a coffee, a bath, then attempt to cure myself as best as possible with citrus tea and a normal dose of cough syrup before I head out.

Edit: oh yeah, another Sad - this one's only mild, but that thread no longer exists, so: I saw an ad on Instagram for upcoming Dylan Moran shows in Australia. I know these things tend to be expensive, but I cautiously clicked on the links to check prices, and it was just shy of ninety bucks?! Nothing very funny about prices like that. ::)
Even worse than I'd expected.

Bad candy has made me sad. It's almost Halloween so mediocre and war crime level candies are everywhere. Today it was circus peanuts, which are like packing peanuts except they taste worse.

Emphasis mine
Unless the candies in question are toxic and therefore used as bioweapons, calling them war crime level is extreme

Have you had circus peanuts?

I have not. Since you survived and circus peanuts are not being used as bioweaponry, they are not a war crime. I know the statement is more than likely hyperbole

Technically, serving your POWs only circus peanuts could potentially be constituted as a war crime... I think.

Being a Dwarf Fortress player, I'm not exactly an expert on the Geneva Convention.

I am an expert on how little I care to adhere to the Geneva convention during play.

Do countries IRL even follow it? I’m not sure if they do or not, It would be nice if they did, but I don’t think all of them do.
