GIMP is awful, though.

GIMP is good. It doesn't do everything PS does (and most notably, it's more focused on image manip than on art), but it's way better than a lt of people seem to think.

I can very much relate to the girl in that image, how she feels about birthdays particularly.
Well. Probably for different reasons... less getting force-fed cake by a terrifying shadow demon, more getting older with so little to show for the almost-23 years I've spent being alive so far.

For what it's worth, GIMP is almost all I use for my art needs. Photoshop doesn't seem to support any sort of vector art, while GIMP lets me lay down paths and stuff in the same program I do raster parts of the thing, which is the main thing I would use vector stuff to do anyway. Muchly convenient. Photoshop is necessary for the map stuff, though.
