DArt page hit 10k views today. I don't have much to show for it, or any way to celebrate it really, haven't really made anything substantial in a month it feels. Goddamn this summer slump, all the free time in the world but zero willpower to do anything but the barest minimum required to survive. The constant lack of sleep doesn't help one bit either.
Get more sleep, dude. Sleep is great, sleep deprivation sucks.

Did they really not expect that?

I like to trust my common humans, but come on, the USA is /huge/!

I hope this doesn't devolve into predictable USA-bashing, but I am disappointed ):  It survived a lot of Europe and Canada just fine.  This doesn't reflect well on US-A.
But if I understood the article right, it'll be rebuilt or something?  I hope it continues its journey.

It's unnatural-looking. If I was American, I'd shoot it.

And the inevitable America-bashing commences anyway.

Eh, America does most of the bashing on itself anyways.

This does seem to be true.

Have you seen a vet about it or is it just worrying?

Well then, it started raining, heavily, I was happy about that, I love sleeping while it rains, especially since it means the temperature drops to comfortable levels.

Except I can't sleep, a fruitless hour and a half later I'm too nervous to even bother trying anymore because I'm spiralling again and my head hurts from lack of sleep too, so fun times ahead as I try to distract myself trough the night again before collapsing tired in the morning.

I have now sunk $200 into a new video card, simply because machine learning is computationally expensive and the video card I have right now was a bargain-bin item 5 years ago. Oh well; I was going to do this eventually. On the plus side, I'll be able to play Skyrim with all the mods I could want now, with all the time I don't have.

That feeling when you have to buy fairly pricy hardware for your computer because it can't keep up with schoolwork is not a happy one.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I didn't know you could do machine learning on video cards.

They don't even know where it is, and from the picture they had it's destroyed beyond repair anyway. I'm not exactly clear on how they have a picture of it destroyed, like... did the people who broke it post a picture somewhere? But they do: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CLXII37WcAAts-l.jpg (warning, graphic robot death scene)
