They also make us a disproportionately large section of people who contact customer service at all. Aren't people great?

It gets a little better if you have some modicum of power. Since I'm the Assistant Manager of a retail store, I take the brunt of the abuse, but I can also say, "If you're not going to be reasonable, we won't do business with you, and no, I don't have to do business with you."

... as the opinion of one who would insult you as a primary means of discourse is not one that you need to hold worthy of consideration.

Customer service is one of those buzz words like "professionalism" that has turned into a rage button for me.  Something customers and upper managers throw out when they want something from you, but can't or don't want to explain how/why they should be able to expect this from you.  Or worse:  when they don't even know what they want, but they feel like something is missing and it's they want you to know it's your fault they're not 100% happy.  Low level employees should really be able to frankly disagree with customers (and employers), and the world would be much better for a lot of people in a lot of ways if they could.

My boss is one of those people who's all "I AM SUPER PASSIONATE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE", but doesn't actually use the term in any concrete fashion.  She just throws it out whenever she wants to tell you that you suck at your job, almost always as a fallback when she can't actually explain how/why.

Just deleted another giant derail.  Moderation doesn't seem to work, so smeeprocket is gone.  Please try to reflect on the forum guidelines and engage with people in a civil fashion.

Stripping good off computer parts and then later refining it but if things don't change I'm going to be stuck at trying to get it off the parts
