It's 2:20 in the morning and I have a class at 8:00 and need to wake up at 7:00. I still haven't slept. I've tried, believe me.

Someone kill me.
In situations like these, sometimes you just gotta power through. I once got just a half-hour of sleep the night before classes, and I couldn't even try to sleep because I was working on an art project that needed time to set up. Drank far too much caffeine and managed to trudge my way through the entire day, no naps or anything. Slept like a baby the next night.

Reminds me of a saying we've got in MT.

Learn to sleep on the job and be aware of anything. x_x

What's MT? It's a shorthand for "empty" in my line of work, but I'm guessing it means something different for you.

Tiruin, you could make a living making a self-help book it seems >.>

That doesn't say much about anyone. It's pretty much like telling someone they could make a living as a snake oil salesman.

Yes, but you, scrdest, would be the greatest snake oil salesman the world has ever seen.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I'm so tired :c 40-hour workweek + studying for GREs + applying for internships + applying for PhD programs + independent mathematical study = Very Sad Vector
Eeesh. Yeah, that's a rough place to be. Subject GREs or the general? I seem to recall you crushing the general at some point in the past but maybe my memory's off. Good luck.

I'm starting to run out of steam. Sleep deprivation's getting to me - I desperately need my brain not to wake me up at 7:30 tomorrow. 8+ hours of work every day for a month is an exhausting enough experience without failing to keep up a vital brain resource, and I don't think I'm going to make it through the next month of fuck-idle-days if I can't catch up on it.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Tried to bring my wife to a nice dinner.

Literally everything the restaurant served us was complete shit.

Evening = ruined.

I'm sure your wife understands that it wasn't your fault.

Sounds like a good British night out. You get to gripe about everything, including the pollen!

It's not just pollen, also a virus in my nose and throat and probably other places.
I blame children. You want to find the worst disease vector? Children.

Ergh, I feel a tad bad about making fun of it. Get well soon, lest you spread it to others, and those others get on a boat and then infect me.

Wait, that was another joke. Well, keep the get well bit. :P
