I know lots of things, but not how to be happy....
[Stoicism]If happiness is unobtainable, make another motivation sufficient for your needs.[/Stoicism]

I've locked on to long-term, long-shot, human survival chance improvement, myself. Makes getting through the parts where happiness is thin much easier when you've got some sort of metaphysically founded goal. Who needs religion when you've got multi-generational social engineering?

Aaaand now I'm in the emergency room. For reasons I'm too polite to delve into here, but no less frustrating because of that. Also, ow.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Mass Effect 3 isn't going to be released on Steam. It'll be on Origin.

No f**king way I'm going to install additional bloatware on my low-capacity, old PC.

What specs do you need to play Mass Effect anyhow?

I think I'm almost done with (my first playthrough of) The Witcher.  It's actually kind of upsetting, as I thought I was only halfway through or so.

Also, I seem to be sick, but it's the first day of classes so I absolutely must go.  Let's hope the chills and diarrhea don't turn into something worse.

(Also, seriously, threads like these make me rage.)

Came to the sad realization today(-ish) that no, I'm not just drinking occasionally because I like the feeling of being buzzed, but that it is just the newest in a long line of reality-escaping devices I've employed almost all my life.  First books, then video games, then the internet, then more video games, and now a (delightfully fruit-flavored) bottle.

Oh well.  Stoically on into this brave new world.

Doctor prescribed a strong antiviral for my eye. Makes sense.

It cost $120.

Why? I'm not quite so sure I understand. It's guy who sacrificed a lot, got betrayed, and now sounds kind of fucked in the emotional lobe and he's worried about becoming bitter due to the experience.

What part of that, exactly, is rageworthy? Did I miss something when I read it?

/seriously curious

Yeah. My insurance is not that great, and this particular drug doesn't seem to be prescribed that often. The only pharmacy in the city that had it in stock was WalMart, which tends to be more expensive for some reason.

I strongly dislike threads like this because they assume that every instance of similar circumstances will have the exact same result.

But, I do recognise their place. People need to vent. Sounds like that guy went through a lot. I'd give him a hug or something if I could (I'm not very good at comforting people).
