Super Mario 3, Desert World, that level that looks like sinking sand from the outside. A sun flies down and tries to kill you. Over and over.
For the entire level.
*Hugs*
Indeed.
Just solve the problem Mario-style.
Holy shit I did not know I could do that...

I hate shopping for out of print stuff.
The only copies I'm finding are on Amazon.
To justify purchasing off Amazon, I'd need to buy lossa stuff.
I don't currently have to resources to buy enough stuff to justify purchasing off Amazon.

I guess I'm posting here, just not nearly as often as I was--read a book today and spent time with my roommates.  That's good, I think.  I don't read the threads I'm not interested in, and spend the bulk of my time doing other stuff.  I need a break from the Progressive Rage Thread, anyhow.  That thing was eating my emotional energy like nothing else.

I'm sad because I wish Thyme and I could be friends.  We pretty much share all of our interests.  Enough, anyway.  Same books.  Same comics.

But I suspect that I'm just not "special" enough for her.  I don't dress oddly for the sake of being odd.  I'm not one of the private school kids at her "school for geniuses;" hell, I don't even think of myself as a genius anymore.  I'm not that smart, and I'm not that strong.

I'd like to just be seen as myself, I guess.  But I guess it's hard for her to be seen with someone who can confidently wear tired sweaters and scuffed shoes.  Or... something.  I'm not "cute."  Rather, I'm not cutesy... I'm not romantic.  I don't carry around fancy gadgets or listen to "subversive" music, unless you count Chinese opera.  I vaguely wonder if I make her feel bad.

Is it that she's afraid to be seen with me because I reflect poorly on her?  Or what?

She seems so much younger now, but she's already 20, soon to be 21.  The age difference just keeps feeling larger and larger.  I don't know what to think any more.

Hey someone who's dissing you for those reasons isn't worth hanging out with ... or going crazy over ... at least until they grow up a bit. Seriously that's a youth phase. Maybe she's trying too hard to project a "cool" image. I've been there, done that. Like with my Uni crowd, I couldn't say I liked The Pixies or Rage Against The Machine coz they weren't "Hardcore" enough for my friends, heaven forbid liking anything more mainstream.

When you're 20/21 a year or two difference is a world of difference in maturity and outlook, when you're 25+ it's not so much. I know a couple of older people who project "cool" goth+metal images, all of them are hanging with 19-21 year olds, which is really just sad when you think about it. Older "classical" metal-heads tend to be more laid back and don't care about image so much, will talk to anyone, not so elitist. (elitism is a self-image-preserving thing, probably, and insecurity)

General friend advice - are both you and her initiating contact / conversations? If you're always the one getting their attention, try laying low for a little while. If they really care, they will get in contact. One-sided friendships are not worth the effort in the long run, and if you keep being the one to make an effort, it puts no pressure on the other person to help build the relationship at all.

Fraternities should be outlawed:
I was briefly in a fraternity for 6 months as the only way I knew how to have a relationship with my somewhat estranged biological brother. Naturally, I was the only one balancing the checkbook and actually doing the work to run the place. 6 months after I quit, they "expelled me" because I quit ???, because you know, "no one quits us we quit you...." I left cause they were hassling me over having three broken bones in my left foot among other things.

Anyhow, they found out I graduated from law school and are trying to use me as a "success story" in their promotional materials. *headdesk* I want nothing to do with these bastards....

Needless to say I've threatened to publish exactly what they did as well as all the skeletons in their closet, which I have full records of. I'll win but it's not like this is something I need bothering me right now, or ever.

These pigs just need to just bugger the hell off.... They have no leg to stand on and I can crush them at will. Their sole, and entirely mistaken, hope is that I'll forgive and forget or that I'm not composed of pure hatred.

I'm not sure which makes me sadder, that they're doing this or that I'm composed mostly of hatred.... Damn it all....

Here's a thought: Regardless of whether or not they try to use you as a success story, publish everything you have on them anyway, report them to the college(s) they're based at, and put fliers advertizing them as being a harmful group all over the campus(es). Oh, and tell the local news stations about them, too.

This is Bay12. Destroy them and everything they hold dear. Then urinate on it all and bury it in magma.

They do realize that this just makes it more likely that people will pirate the game right?

Don't even need to go that far, apparently. people have reported success with intentionally corrupting the savegame. I really don't see it as that big a deal, as all it saves are high scores and unlocks.

People hacked the Kinect and made it useable for all sorts of things the same week it came out. If there isn't a 3DS emulator that perserves the 3D effect by now, then there will be soon.

You need the right kind of screen to preserve the 3d effect. There is apparently a flashcart option, though.
