Yay, they're all gone now.

Barbar, I'll reply to you later.  I have to sleep and I'm still emotionally worn out.

Ugh, I cannot remember if I fell asleep earlier. I think I did, though. I hate sleeping while it's still light out.

So I get up to get some dinner and bluh bluh, it's a quarter to midnight.
Insomnia's a bitch.
On the plus side, my dinner is good (but leftover) pizza and some hot chocolate.

Tomorrow I catch the train home to Sydney, away from my loving parents once again. It's been such a great week of being back in the loving environment of my parents place, but all good things must come to a close, and I need to get back to real life. Sad that the dream must end.

Insomnia's a bitch.

The modern assumption that consolidated sleep with no awakenings is the normal and correct way for human adults to sleep, may lead many people to approach their doctors with complaints of maintenance insomnia or other sleep disorders.  Their concerns might best be addressed by assurance that their sleep conforms to historically natural sleep patterns.

Historically, people used to sleep polyphasically, sleeping for short periods divided by periods of wakefulness. Prolonged periods of nighttime wakefulness were normal in many separate cultures, spanning from Africa to Europe. That sleep is "supposed" to be 8 hours of consolidated, uninterrupted sleep from approximately 10 pm to 6 am is a modern myth, created by the desires of industry and culture.

People actually think and function better during periods of nighttime wakefulness after a brief sleep, and many past authors and thinkers highly valued the productivity they saw from working during these times.

Well that is good to know. I will often have trouble sleeping, and I might have to start taking that into account to correct this.

Maybe him and his crowbar broke up.

It never looked like they were in a good relationship, to me.  :P

-snip-

You people and your science.  Pfft.  Next you'll tell us consolidating our eating to three meals a day is unnatural, or biggest rock isn't best rock.  Common wisdom is clearly superior. ::)

Anyway, yeah, that's pretty interesting.
