So are you a member of the "I'm incapable of tanning" club, or are you just pasty from no sunshine?

Moderately-to-heavily Sunburned. :(

I'm clearly too pasty for sunshine. I was at least hoping my brilliant whiteness would reflect UV frequencies. Apparently it doesn't work like that.

You seem to have been sunburned at roughly the same time I was. COINCIDENCE?!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Fancy that.  I'm sunburned as well >_>

Apparently copious amounts of leg hair is no substitute for sunblock.

Based on sun exposure, my skin tone goes directly from Pale Olive to Poached Lobster. The line between these is so thin that it's pretty much 1-Dimensional.

Tans are ugly anyway.

Pasty white for the win!

But I have Vitamin D deficiency and my skin tans just fine (just my arms, but it still happens). Being Mediterranean might help though.

It's not even good for camouflage - unless you're badass enough to fight in the snow naked. At least it might strike fear in the hearts of your enemies :P

I mean that the human body is capable of synthesizing vitamin D from sunlight. So someone who never sees the sun would probably have to take supplements or be deficient.

You're forgetting the blinding effect!

You need much, much less sunlight than you probably think. A single car drive once a week will do it. A window in your room is good too.

It takes surprisingly little sun exposure to create the vitamin D you need. Though, the sun has to be high enough in the sky for the stronger radiation to get through. If you are about mid-latitude or further on either side of the equator, there is going to be at least some part of the year without the proper sun rays (in winter, of course).

Humans had no selective pressure to be innately camouflaged. Through technology and being capable of killing everything that moved, the only selective pressures humans faced were the raw elements of nature and other humans.

Wah. Not so much sad as slightly grumpy. I passed out this morning, fell right over onto the floor with a thud. I am nearly certain it is nothing serious as this:
a.) Happens only while I am out in the hot, desert state I go to every Summer.
b.) I didn't drink a ton of water yesterday.
c.) It is morning so I hadn't eaten or anything yet.
d.) I stood up pretty quickly from laying down.

I've been much better this Summer than previous years (I passed out twice last Summer), and actually eating and drinking water and stuff, but people are freaking out and probably going to try and get me to go to urgent care when they get home. Next time, I'm making up some excuse for the thud people hear upstairs :S

I created a thread and it got locked in exactly two hours.

I feel bad now. Sorry Toady. :\

On the other hand it's a nice change of pace from people generally ignoring my comments and threads, so I have that going for me.
