Caught myself self-diagnosing psychiatric disorders on wikipedia again. I need to stop doing that.  :-\

What do they call that disorder?  It's not quite the same as being a hypochondriac, but...  I bet there's ways to help treat it.  Maybe you could find something on Wikipedia about it?
Goddamn it, I had the tab open before I caught myself. Stop fucking with my head, it's fucked enough as is.

Doing that right now. Apparently I have a mix of antisocial and evasive personality disorders. Go figure.

That's why I don't allow myself to look at medical articles on Wikipedia anymore.

Also, there actually is a Wikipedia article on it, Cyberchondria. I have now diagnosed myself with Cyberchondria escalating the level of meta in this conversation to 20.

Sound is booting weird again.
I think to get these headphones to work, I need to boot with them in a regular USB port, then move them to the hub later.

So now Wine is messed up.
It'll boot things, but it takes about 20 times longer than before.
Damn you Winetricks on an x86_64 system!

Though it may actually be this program that displays Windows executables with their icon…

Linux:  BLAZING FAST until something goes wrong, which is often.

At this rate, I'm probably just going to save everything to my external HDD, nuke the fucker, and reinstall.

Well, took one of those fancy personality tests for Linux.
It said I should install Gento or Slackware.
I have a Slackware .iso that I could readily burn, or I could grab a Gentoo one.
How to decide which one to use, though, or if I should stick with Arch…

Have you tried just reinstalling wine? I cannot count how many times I have screwed up my wine install with winetricks. Especially messing around with dx9 drivers.

I have.
It didn't help.
And the sound has completely stopped working.

Also, which distro should I install on my old PPC G4?
I know Arch and Gentoo have PPC versions.

Gentoo seems like kind of a hassle. I'd probably stick with Arch or Debian.

That's kinda the point.
Anyway, sound is back by removing the modules from the boot config.
I will get headphones back online after I try to fix Wine.
Probably by backing up my programs and such, nuking the folder, nuking wine and related applications, and reinstalling it.
It that doesn't work, I will do a reinstall.
I'll probably do my G4 next weekend.
It's kinda late at this point.

Well, looks like that worked.
Time to get those headphones working again.
And who knows, maybe I will have enough time to install Linux on my old computer today.

I have a 3 hour histology lab once a week.
I've discovered that spending any extended amount of time looking at microscope slides apparently somehow makes me light-headed and motion-sick.

By about halfway through the period I could barely focus on the words in my lab book...

My histology teacher was crazy.

Like, literally crazy. The year prior to then one when I had the subject she had had a psychotic breakdown in the middle of a class. She certainly acted in a queer and vaguely absent manner

This is kind of sickening.

I don't even think it's necessary.  Learning should be fun.  It isn't hard to make it fun.  It isn't even that hard to make endless drills fun.  Topics that are poorly-motivated and learned by rote result in incomplete understanding and an inability to synthesize various concepts.

Without fostering a child's creativity, you won't get what you want in the long run.  This strategy is excellent short-term, but in many courses of study--i.e. ones outside of the natural sciences--it will not work.

I just... this sort of thing makes me so angry.

I'm just wondering what her expectation is. Emotionally torture your children into perfection and then post a horrific and sort-of-racist article on the internet about how that makes you the best kind of parent? Does she seriously think anyone would agree with this? The father angers me more than anything else, since it sounds like he realizes how absurd her child raising philosophy is, but won't take action to put a stop to it for his own children's well-being.
