You Americans need to drink more tea, then you'd get it. You shouldn't have dumped it all into Boston Harbour. I mean, some people prefer coffee but that was a step too far.

*facepalm* No. It was actually because we didn't like paying 1/25th of the taxes British people had on Tea!

Speaking of tea, I think it's hilarious that the Boston Tea Party happened, because tea was TOO CHEAP. I mean, if only that were possible today. Can you see anyone, throwing their cheap, giant LCD televisions and laptops into a harbour somewhere?

Wouldn't you, If you were being forced to buy only (for example) Zenith televisions? With the tea, the only problem was that the only available tea came from the British East India Co, and therefore was 'tainted'.

I'm not sure if this thread has gotten more or less rediculous since Sofia stopped posting in it.

Kettles?

Around here we use kettles for heating water.

Saucepans are too much work.

Um, I know the reasoning behind it, that was incredibly obvious sarcasm.

Actually, it seems Americans plain didn't like paying taxes. After the 7 years war of 1754-1763, an American colonist paid sixpence in taxes, whereas a British person paid over 25 shillings, which is 50 times more.
To be fair, the increases in taxes and enforcement were a system shock to the colonists, as for the past century or so, the taxes had barely been enforced.
Oh, and the taxes had to be raised to pay for British soldiers to protect the colonists and to pay for the war. Which France lost, by the way.

Do note America was a colony and Britain was a massive worldwide superpower. The British norm applies for a small country with huge masses of wealth going through it. America, while not an entirely small country itself, was still growing. Damn good reason to complain of those taxes.

 But yes, kettles.

You do realize that those have to be averages over the respective populations right?  Every man and woman in Britain wasn't paying 25 shillings out of pocket, more like most of that money was from trade and wealthy people and so forth.  Most of the taxes the colonists had to pay were in the form of stamps on goods, such as having to pay an extra excise tax on paper products for instance.

Not to mention that the colinists weren't represented in British Parliament and had no say on how their taxes would be spent, and how high the tax rate would climb. One of the reasons people make fun of those conservatives that organized protest tea parties when the Obama administration raised taxes is because they were represented by the government.
