Ripping off limbs?
« on: October 03, 2009, 01:47:00 am »

People rip bodily appendages off of each other all the time in Legends.  Is this possible in Adventurer mode?

I'm pretty sure I've had an adventurer with an ear ripped off and an eye torn out, but he died soon afterwords, so I can't be sure.

Limbs and such can be hacked off, but I don't think there is a way to tear them off without modding.  Even my size-40 creature couldn't tear limbs off, although he broke them without even trying.  Eyes are gougable, if you use a free hand.

Weird, because dwarves and elves do tear each other's arms and noses off in Legends.  Does this mean that what happens during worldgen history is not connected to actual game mechanics?

That's undeniably true.  Buildings (like hovels and shops) cannot be destroyed during gameplay, either, though it happens all the time in legends.  Worldgen uses simplified mechanics to calculate interactions, including fights.  (This is why megabeasts die all the time in worldgen - they are too small)

There is a condition where you can rip limbs off.

If you bite, you have a chance to latch on. You'll have your mouth on whatever body part you attacked. Then, like the animals, you follow it up by shaking, and that shaking part can tear the limb away.  Dwarves, humans, and elves have bite as a secondary attack, so your Adventurer typically only bites when you've lost the use of both of your arms.  At that point, you're usually in a bit of trouble.

Unless you have 6 arms that all have mouths attatched.

No reason to have mouths, hands work fine if your size is large enough and you have [can_latch] on

I actually did that to my Tentacle Demons, as well as changing their body type so that they're spherical beholder-like monstrosities instead of humanoids with tentacles.

It's VERY easy to rip off limbs (and other things) with a weapon, but without...
By the way, how do I shake something and how do I gouge eyes out ?

Gouging: use an empty [GRASP] part, like a hand, and grab a part with gougeable stuff, like the head. Proceed with horrific murder.

Shaking: once you've latched, continue attacking. Shaking will commence for great justice.

It's a lot deadlier than simple weapon-twisting.

Ooooh, that's cool.  Makes me think of claw style kung fu attacks.

Now I want to mod in the flying guillotine.

I am going to make a giant crabperson adventurer. Claws with [can_latch] for body-part ripping. Downside being no weapons or armour, but 2 dam-block. Alternatively, I will make a cat adventurer and see how many kills I can get. I predict 0 (perhaps 1 elf child).

With that crab person, you should go with either slash or gore damage. It will be hilarious.
