Artifact steel chain mail vs high quality steel plate mail
« on: September 23, 2009, 05:58:41 pm »

One of my dwarves just made artifact steel chain mail, and I was wondering whether I should make one of my dwarves wear it over the high quality steel plate which I will be making now that I have a legendary armorsmith.  The wiki says that the quality modifier of artifact items is unclear, so I'm not sure what to do.  Does anyone feel that they may know?

While I don't know the exact comparative value between mastercraft and artifact, I know it's better in someway from personal experience.

If I recall, armour stacks. So you could have the dwarf wear BOTH. Just drop him down to.. like his shirt. Then up him to the chainmail, wait for him to put it on, and then up him to the platemail.

BAM, dwarven seige engine.

Don't forget the steel cap in the leather armor level.

Dwarves can wear both chain and plate armor.  I believe that plate has to go on top.

Thus, try to get your favorite champion to wear the artifact chain mail with masterwork plate over it.  Also, give your smith the best of everything!

I was not aware that dwarves can layer like that.  This was done historically, but still seems a bit cheap here, as I assumed that plate mail included any chain that was necessary...is this considered a bug?

Considering that piercing weapons will still wreck your face seven different ways in a single shot, stacking artifact/masterwork armor doesn't seem so exploit-y.

Dwarves should all be wearing plate AND chain. Together.

Congrats on the useful artifact and skill, though. Better than an artifact tower-cap blowgun, which menaces with spikes of tower-cap, with no other decorations.
It's 2200 dorfbucks. I'm routinely producing meal stacks 5 times that value out of the quern pile.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

I believe dwarves will naturally try to layer their armor wit armor from one level below what they're assigned, so a dwarf assigned plate will try to wear chain underneath. But don't quote me on that.

But yes, layer the artifact chain under the masterwork plate and watch goblin arrows, spears, swords, and every other weapon they bring ping harmlessly off. Just make sure the rest of him is just as well covered, masterwork adamantine plate is useless if you don't bother to cover your head.

You can never fully defend against these little bastards.  I had my three champions going nuts on a good sized siege party.  None of them had sustained any injuries from the dozens of melee units.  All of a sudden an arrow manages to hit one of them, what does it do?  Pierces both his lungs and his heart and he bleeds to death in about 10 frames.

With [SLOW_LEARNER], dwarves probably don't sit around and talk anymore. They just stand in the same corner altogether, staring at each other, sticking their bearded lips out trying to make sounds. And giggling when someone actually says a whole word.

Would be fun to make adamantine clothing too, and layer with that.

Adamantine clothes, Leather, Chain and Plate all at once. With an adamantine cloak over it.

Think anything can hurt a dwarf wearing all that?

The adamantine clothes will wear out within two or three years.

'sides, you can't layer leather under plate, or have leather under chain under plate.
