Just realised that so many of my crushes when I was younger were probably actually me having bad gender envy.

Why does this realisation make me happy? Good question, but it does.

Good news! That doesn't stop.

I still often can't tell which is which.

Hell, both is always an option, innit? Just to make things that extra bit more confusing :V

Ah, I've worked out how to differentiate.

When faced with the possibility of not being able to go out with them, it produces a different feeling.

I... would have assumed they were fairly easy to differentiate? One being chemical, and the other concerned with aesthetics.

Anecdotal example: I see men in the gym who have achieved the level of fitness I'm aiming for. I may envy that to a degree, but I don't fancy them.

Oh yeah no, it turns out being trans is an absolute fucking mess emotionally. Even if you're able to get through it all without mental health issues, so many emotions are "adjacent" to one another it can be hard to tell them apart. On top of that, certain physical reactions can happen across multiple emotions which just aids in confusion.

Good example for me is I can find it hard to differentiate excitement and anxiety, because for me they're basically the same emotion but with either a positive or a negative slant to them. In a similar way it's hard to tell if I'm feeling a certain way about someone because I think they're amazing, or because I want to be them. Apparently it's an issue that gay/lesbian people have as well.

You're straight, right? So you wouldn't experience the same thing unless you routinely both wanted to date women and aspired to be more like them. This is possible while being a cis male, but more likely if you're a trans woman or a lesbian.

Chin up, other than the specific attraction thing a lot of cis people endure the other things you're mentioning. You might be interested in the book, How Emotions are Made.

Just as some people experience synaesthesia where sensations are intertwined you also get similar things with emotions. E.g. fear, disgust, arousal are all common ones to get crossed over. It's why you have so many sexy horror genres. It's no surprise that you'll find other combinations like anxiety and excitement, as they all have very similar pathways

Oh yeah no, it's not bothering me any more, it's just that it's a really messy set of emotions that it creates.

Lordbaal updated "lastactive" to july, as far as I can tell the last time dated back to early june, so that's good. I saw a super scary documentary about the columbian-venezuean border a while back.

Hmmm, I guess the core element here is 'yearning'

I can see how 'wanting to be' could be confused with 'wanting to be with'.

Though I daresay it's a bit.... shaky... to claim that a cis man would be less likely to experience that 😅

Cis-het, because there's a difference between who you want to be and who you're attracted to, so you can readily tell the difference.

If you're cis, you only want to be other men. If you're het, you aren't attracted to them. Makes it easier to differentiate them.

I don't think it's pretty ridiculous to say cis men only want to be like other men.
