I do love the movie but I can't help but root for mankind and hope the sequels just somehow show us winning.

In the first of the sequels, Sigourney Weaver will show up with a cargo of glyphosate and booze. All the later ones will be small, socially-conscious dramas about the hard realities of living in reservations and managing casinos.

Not nearly dystopian enough.  Their ability to have direct neural interlinkages, means a synthetic (and thus, potentially profit generating) career path as analytical processing agents plugged into otherwise dumb AI, and against their free will, looks plausible.

That, or humanity introduces an engineered neural bundle "STD", like HIV for blue people. (Since organic neural interlinkage requires mucous membrane contact, and thus would be a ripe environmental vector for contagion.)   [True story, I wondered why the blue people and all those bizarre animals did not have brain cooties. I chalked it up to hollywood not understanding that ecological niches do not just sit vacant, and that any exposed area that is simultaneously warm, moist, and with a nutrient source *WILL* develop specialized biota that live in that environment, and that means tentacle rot is necessary on that planet.]


OH-- or if you want to stick with "Magic white guy and the blue people remain victorious!" line---- Remember, his avatar was genetically engineered and also contains traces of his human genetic profile, which would be alien genes who's long-term effects in the blue people population from his relationship with blue chick, cannot be reliably predicted.

Feel free to adlib all manner of horrible genetic disorders from that.

Alright. So instead of the generic booze, they get hooked on social media. A few years later the emaciated Navi spend 95% of their days clicking through facebook games and twitter feeds, while analytic algorithms running in the background milk their social activity for data, money and processing power.

And wierd; on the topic of hair dicks transmitting stds, i would retort thar it is only reasonable in such an ecosystem that organisms have a strengthened immune system or other self defense mechanisms around these vulnerable areas for precisely that reason. Take life on earth for example; reptiles and birds literally put it in the bum because thats where their reproductive organs are meant to be accessible from, but they typically dont get life threatening infections from it; if they did, theyd all go extinct or some freaks with genitalia separate from their GI tract would be the dominant, most common phenotypes on the planet. Which we have... maybe the dinosaurs did die of stds? Who knows.

These diseases would be common logically, but arent the focus of or even an important element of the story so far, and yeah nearly nobody in hollywood understands biology anyway id figure

Or 300! Half of my friends apparently expected it to be documentary and got upset when it was comprised of cave trolls and clever taglines instead. Why do people hate fun.

Now, see, I thought 300 was fine enough as it was. I thought the Spartans making fun of the puny Athenians was fun (because Athens trounced the legendary hoplites of Sparta in their own glory days), especially for diddling young boys (a fucking CORNERSTONE of Spartan society), and the action was nice and bloody and stylized and had lots of fun slowmo. Also Gerard Butler went from "chick flick regular" to "macho master manly man" overnight, which was hilarious.

What irritated me was the particular kind of people who tried to say that 300 was historically accurate, "more or less".

As for Avatar, Giovanni Ribisi clearly just wanted to be back in Boiler Room again, Sigourney Weaver didn't weave nearly enough Sigourneys, and Stephen Lang AKA Col. Quaritch was a fucking god-man with a distinguished first degree medal of RIP AND TEAR.

Well that's just harsh. They also goot right that there was a city state called Sparta and one called Athens.   Oh and that there was a Persian invasion on Greece at the time.

I think it got alluded to, but the full tactical stupidity of the "let's just bumfuck each other in triremes" maneuver was never properly addressed. Xerxes was still supposed to have the upper hand at that point in the storytelling.
