The thing about the restriction isn't "No meat", it bars beef and pork as those were typically luxury/decadent food compared to simple things like grains, veggies, fish and poultry.

Please remember that the story about dipping some raw meat in the well was a nobleman, not a farmer or anything.

In the list of things I did not expect, GC being a mom would be right next to the Inquisition and GC's daughter being a Catholic.

So many questions.

Now that you said this I expect her and a few of her friends to barge in and do the actual skit.

You're US-based, right? That means they'll step off the plane just as I'm waking up from a restful night's sleep.

Perfect.

I have to assume that that old Catholic tradition is the only reason people today don't consider fish to be meat.

I mean, it's the flesh of a dead animal. It's meat by any reasonable measure.
Well, yes, and some people do reject it as well for Lent for precisely that reason, but it isn't obligation.  That said, I sometimes suspect the original rules-lawyers were priests in a tradition dating back as long as civilization, and Catholicism and its antecedents have had a long time to build up its own traditions, such as that fish and fowl were creatures of the sea and air rather than land in a tradition dating back to Judaism.  Also, there's the fact that fish meat tends to taste very different from the meats of land animals, which tends to lead to the distinction being drawn to others as well.  It's not a distinction restricted to Catholic culture, either; Muslim halal practice and certain Buddhist and Hindu sects also distinguish between fish and land sources of meat.

Fun fact: we can very likely thank Lent for the domestication of the rabbit, and consequently everything from lop-eared pets to Angora furs.  Though it seems it may be somewhat apocryphical, Pope Gregory I apparently argued that rabbit fetuses were to be allowed for consumption during Lent based on the precedent set by fish and the fact that rabbit embryos superficially resembled fish, which lead to many monks taking up the practice of cuniculture.

This brings a whole new terrifying light to easter bunnies, and especially easter eggs.

I know what I'm pranking someone with this easter.

Edit for actual explanation: Fred Rogers was a Presbyterian minister and children's show host, and is widely considered in the US to have been one of the nicest and best people to have ever lived. To quote Cracked.com, "A lot of people of a lot of faiths are waiting for the Messiah, but even if one arrives, how are you going to tell the difference between him and Fred Rogers?"
