If anyone is interested I have a GreaseMonkey / javascript which culls threads from my unread replies. You need to modify the list though to match specifically the threads you want to have erased. I just chucked it up here:

It's a thing that deletes unnecessary threads from unread replies.
Do you even understand how significant this is?
It means posting in random threads is possible without them clogging up the unread replies page!

I have half a dozen pages of Unread Replies. I usually just cherry-pick threads I'm interested in at the time and ignore the rest. I get the feeling Xanty would be annoyed by this no end.
