The American national anthem is the best because its musical structure makes it incredibly difficult to sing, and the singing of it is mandatory at a wide range of events. We've made public humiliation into a patriotic pastime.

??? Why bother having an anthem if you're just going to make it boring and secular? I'm not 100% sure the song I'm thinking of is the official NZ anthem, actually. I'll have to check next time I'm at a computer.

In NZ, we pretty much never sing the anthem. Had to do it a couple of times per year (ish) for school, and even then it was usually just the first verse. If we ever sang the second verse it's little more than nur-nur nur-nur, nur nur nurrr...
Long story short, there's a bunch of verses, and most of us barely even know the first one.
