I'd imagine it's a grilled cheese sandwich, which I've always questioned the name of, given that they're fried.

That's... true. I have to rethink my life now... I'm having a existential grilled cheese crisis now...

Toasties can be made in one of two ways, both of which start the same:
Get two slices of bread, make a sandwich with whatever you want to toastie to be
Route A) Get a toastie bag, put the sandwich in the back and stick in the toaster
Route B) Get a toastie maker, put the bread in, get toastie out. This route usually also seals the edges of the sandwich so you get a goopy interior without the filling falling out.

There are bags... which you can put a sandwich in...and put it in the toaster.......................
