Ewwwww yuckyyyy that's the one with boring and mandatory turret segments and over the top and repetitive chopper gameplay (your attack helicopter does barrel rolls to avoid missiles. which is complete bullshit)!! At least the actual jet fighting was somewhat enjoyable, but I think the CRE was somewhat poorly realised, and as a major game mechanic it cheapens the experience once you figure out that it renders you invincible and lets you cheese entire fleets of enemy fighters. It's also the only way to kill ace pilots most of the time which I guess is supposed to make them seem tough but really makes the fights seem all the same. The final battle is entirely made up of these CREs, racing through the same areas over and over and it's simply not possible to defeat the final boss otherwise because he automatically dodges everything you fire at him automatically. The plot was also not very memorable. I beat the game several times and I've only got a vague idea of what actually happened.

Yeeeeah, first impression was "... This is just me flying around chasing quick-time events, isn't it?" But it's the first flight game I've ever gotten to play, so it's still pretty exciting.

It was still fun, I beat it multiple times, but yeah I think that was just me being starved of any good flying games. The only other ones I own are the original Air Combat for the PSX (I ADORE that game and play through it at least one or two times a year) and Il-2 Sturmovik (which I beat but still consider boring as piss).

All of my avatars are from Ace Combat 3. It's got characters and junk. The plot is kinda like Ghost in the Shell with a bit of Evangelion, though that's overselling it a bit. The animation is done by Production I.G.

Ace Combat 04 on the Playstation 2 is incredible. Ace Combat 5 is also incredible. Ace Combat 3's non-Japanese version is pretty bad (the repetitiveness is really noticeable when there isn't a good story to go along with it). Ace Combat 2 is good fun. Air Combat is pretty dated, even compared to Ace Combat 2, but it's still fun.

I haven't played it, but from what I've heard it's really good. I've only played 1-5 and Infinity. Note that none of 'em have QTEs at all except Assault Horizon and the 3DS game sorta. The 3DS game is a remake of Ace Combat 2 with some stuff taken from Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, which I've never played and seems really interesting. Made by the same company and has similar gameplay. They were also planning on making a Xevious game in the 04 engine and a third-person shooter that takes place in Sapin (a country east of Osea in the continuity used in 2-5, Zero, the PSP games and 3D), but those didn't really work. There's also Ace Combat Infinity on the PS3, which is free-to-play and pay-for-time as SHIT (you can hold up to three 5-minute sorties at a time and one sortie recharges every 4 hours).
