...I'm literally adopted, and I've grown quite a happy streak of human behavior for that.
It's hard to explain.
So you were adopted and liked it?
...I could tell you the whole story if you liked. :v

Anyone with self respect doesn't edit their headcanon. You should construct an alternate universe where your head canon still holds true.

Everyone seems to be saying headcanon like it's a thing that is not dumb. Headcanon has always existed. It is literally just what you think. But every time I see the word I think about canon and fandom and the complete ridiculousness of how it can get like with Star Wars novels and people's fanfiction.

Argh, fanfiction. Same deal. It's just using an existing IP to write a story. Authors sometimes do this in collaboration, but the basic definition covers so much. Disney basically does 80% fanfiction - Snow White, Little Mermaid, Jungle Book, Aladdin, Lion King, Tangled are all rewrites of someone else's characters and plots. Technically though you could write a fictional story about a real character or event and it would fall under the literal definition of fanfiction (which is to say, not your internally-developed sense of what the word encompasses but the actual meaning of "a work written by a fan, which is fictional, using an existing story or characters"). For example, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is absolutely fanfiction of the real Abraham Lincoln. Anything that's not original fiction is fanfiction. But every time I see the word fanfiction what pops into my head is someone writing about Spock boning Kirk on their Livejournal.

I think in the context of B12, headcanon just means the image you have in your head of everyone else. Nothing to do with fanfics.

Some folks did that once. It did not end well.  :-[

Fan fiction never ends well unless it's some sort of replication of the events in something. For example, a highly embellished biography of Abe Lincoln is a fanfic that can end well. A creepy one about Honest Abe not being so honest to his wife is doomed to be restricted to cult status. Same deal applies for webcomics based on Pokemon games, or mildly disturbing LOTR fansites.

I've given up on fanfic in general. Mainly because the quality is almost universally poor. I don't have enough time in my life to read the best books, much less the brainvomit of a barely-literate basement troll. Secondarily, the only mildly disturbing ones seem to be the ones that aren't finished yet.

I recall TvTropes has a very nice fanfic recommendation section.

... and it's still better than a great deal of published works, occasionally matching literary greats. Sturgeon doesn't apply to fanfiction much more extensively than it does to any other form of writing.

And yeh don't have to be a prick about making your point, aye?

I've read some fanfics that were genuinely better than the works upon which they were based. I am currently reading "A green sun illuminates the void", which takes one of the most obnoxious anime caracters ever to exist and turns her into something genuinely likable, as well as combining believable psychological drama with radioactive-hate-fire-powered action.

Tiberium Wars is very much better then... Tiberium Wars, which is a novel based on Tiberium Wars.   Too bad it's been dead for a while.
I finally got some games downloaded on my new computer.  I was a bit confused about why everything was th inking that I had no graphics card, but I managed to solve that problem.   So far I have Crysis and Renegade X installed, along with Fraps to benchmark everything.  Crysis won't work because my computer is a 64 bit system (My computer is too good to play Crysis?), but I can get 60 fps on the highest settings for Renegade X.   Versus the 1 FPS followed by an eventual crash on my previous computer.
