Pretty sure "Thou shalt not divorce" is one of the commandments...

According to context, you mean "Thou shalt not commit adultery". I don't recall divorce being such a commitment, but it usually is the end result of it. In any case, that commandment has been obliterated eons ago. Kinda makes dating a challenge. While on it, in some cases in which adultery is claimed, but not factual is also breaking a commandment of "Thou shalt not bear false witness"; an often broken commandment.

I could have sworn it says divorce, but apparently "echtbreken" (Dutch for literally "breaking the bonds of marriage") is a synonym for committing adultery.

Yeah, its adultery. That isn't to say that you can divorce in the eyes of god. So that means that if you "divorce" someone then hook up with someone else you are committing adultery.

Yup, pretty explicitly stated. So while divorce isn't technically against the 10 commandments, it functionally is.

I can understand where he's coming from. My misanthrope friend can be incredibly rude and unpleasant to certain people people because his dedication to honesty results in him refusing to filter anything he says or thinks no matter how it'll effect the other person. Thankfully he's not actually as dedicated as he says he is, and so he only goes halfway most of the time.

The implication I'm trying to make is that if lying is supposed to be an extremely basic tool for human interaction, I'd feel extremely uncomfortable around pretty much everyone.

I don't feel that way, and I don't feel most people lie unless they have reason to.
