I'm betting we'll be the most advanced race we know for a while, considering how we havn't heard anything from any neighbors of ours, so they probably aren't there or are behind us techwise.

I think my favorite part of that was seeing the LHC in comparison to Uluru. Having climbed Uluru, that actually gives me a good point of reference.

Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. The Earth is the only world known, so far, to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment, the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

This is going in my book marks. I need more things like this to chear me up.

Today I learned that ravens can mimic humans like parrots can. Which is pretty cool in and of itself, but the really cool thing is their voices. They sound dark and sinister.

I really like ravens, because I'm training to become a Saturday morning cartoon villain.

Without this fact, The Raven would have been a significantly less interesting poem, you know.

They usually have a far more limited vocabulary than the more talky parrots, however. And they are, sadly, illegal to keep as pets in most places.
