Has anyone played 12? I never finished it because it just kind of lost its hold on me. I remember getting to a really beautiful city, playing for an hour or two in the areas around it, and just kind of burning out. It might have had something to do with the fact that you had to ace a quicktime event every time you performed a limit break or else the boss would become impossible. Maybe I just didn't grind enough.

I played through maybe half of 12, but man, I just can't remember a thing about it besides that it was unremarkable in every way.

1. Good ol' old skool game that only gets better if you imagine them being the cast from 8 bit theatre
2. Never got far because it was just so grindy because I never knew if I was ready for the next area or not. And by grindan I mean hitting my own characters. Hilarity.
3. It's all like woohoo I can make my characters whatever I want whenever I want. The adaptability is what I like so much about it.
4. The fact that one was always stuck with a specific character setup was kinda annoying. Good story though.
5. Like 3, but with better story, Gilgamesh, and the coolest old guy ever. In your face Auron.
6. First game with the "Everybody can be anything (plus whatever special skills they have)" system.  The fact that one could make any party about just as effective as a different one means that one doesn't have to choose between "people who I like" and "people who are good at fightan". Unless Gau or Gogo were involved. But the presence of Kefka places this game rock bottom *shudder*
7. The limitation to 3 characters is annoying. I liked my 4-man parties thank you very much.
8. Haven't played it much and that has been years go... don't remember much.

10. Starts off like 4 but with more flexibility due to character swaps, but in high-end content it's more like 6 because everybody can have identical skillsets and stats. Also I have the Pal-version which means the post-Zanarkand content is chock-full of bonus bosses. Also those cutscenes man. Fuck those. Would be way more fun without them.

Never played any of the later games.

...but seriously, it's not just the gameplay. I know other games have done tactical combat better. It's the story; a gritty medieval fantasy world that explores class conflict and political intrigue against a backdrop of the usual world-ending FF struggle. The characters and writing are friggin' ace.

....the pre-rendered cutscenes were one of my favorite things about FFX. My wife would watch me play, just for a chance to see the cutscenes.

But yeah I interpreted the cutscenes as the game telling me to take a break and use the restroom or something.
At least I was lucky enough to kill that climax boss on my first try or I'd have to watch that 10-minute cutscene all over again.

That would be Romancing SaGa 3, not Final Fantasy. They just slapped on the Final Fantasy name to try and sell more games.

Same goes for "Final Fantasy Legend." It's actually Secret of Mana's prequel.



Anywho Tactics is best Final Fantasy.
