If you actually took him up on that 'no billable stuff' offer, what exactly would that amount to? Standing there looking lawyery?

Basically.

Finally managed to wrest imagination from the locked parts of my creativity. I must say this is something for me to celebrate, since it's been a long, long time since I got a burst of creativity.

Good to hear; roll with it while you've got it! To get you ready for the eventuality that this inspirational well dries up, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nlsIOoLvKM.

Ze Frank is a pretty smart fellow.

You know what? Thank you for that link, and I really mean that. Most of the stuff you do is actually pretty cool. Have you considered being one of those people on youtube who get paid with advertising for doing stuff/getting tons of views? Or are you one already, cause I'd watch or something if that helped. And, I'm saying that with a rare, but complete, lack of snark. I have seen the livestream. Is good.

Speaking of art, just discovered a timelapse video of the Earth's surface taken from the ISS, that shows a side of the planet in a way I've never seen before.
Oh man it's like we're living on Coruscant.

I always think Trantor first. I always thought it had a bit more realism to it.

So today my mother performed minor surgery on my dog... Which is to say she cut open a big cist on his back which was bothering everyone... but not actually the dog, she basically used it as an excuse to try to encourage me to become a vet or veterinary assistant by showing me a bit about how surgery is done.
She brought in a few surgery supplies that she "borrowed" from work, a surgical blade (I forget what exactly she called it), some hair removal stuff, a neonatal syringe, some local, and some disinfecting wipes. She just put him on the table, had me hold him, then removed hair around the lump, injected tiny amounts of local on both sides of the lump then "stabbed" it with the surgical blade which she held in a pair of forceps, then she just squeezed the pus out, and cleaned it all up. It bled a little, but not that much. She said she was worried it was going to be a solid lump, because pus can be like that sometimes, when that happens you have to pull it out as a ball, which means making a larger incision, which can get a bit ugly.

It was interesting.

I think someone posted that a few months back. It's still cool though.
I really like seeing the lightning storms in action, also I love the aurorae, it's really cool to see where the lines of the earth's magnetic field collide with the atmosphere. It gives you perspective on how it forms a layered bubble.

Aye, cysts aren't usually that dangerous. They're just quarantine mode for the body. A membrane shuts off the area, and then the body pumps it full of lymph and white blood cells until it thinks it's dead.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I hate to be like this, but I'm afraid you may find it...underwhelming when compared to MGS. Good luck, though.

Those cells are going to be as a tree on Endor's moon. That is to say, very splintered indeed.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Given that my first two thoughts were "he has a square and unfabulous head" and "y u jump so slow, fuckass?" I'm suspecting you'll be right.  I kinda want to try Thief, too, but... eh.

The game seems a little bit lacking in character right now, and the main character doesn't have much personality =/

I like Splinter Cell in a different way. They're more about plain killing stuff than stealth, but they tend to be a lot more strategic, and the grab someone, use him as a human shield, and shoot his buddy before knocking him out routine is always fun.

Incidentally, the first three games are the best, Double Agent was kind of a letdown for me, the story was interesting but I found that gameplay-wise it left a bit to be desired, and Conviction was just awful.
In Conviction they turned it from a stealth game with a focus on sneakily eliminating things, to a game where you run around clinging to drainpipes shooting everything that moves. They also threw in a whole load of shootouts. There were one or two of these in the first few games, but in those ones you had to be strategic, and they were generally short lived. In Conviction it's more like playing Max Payne, with waves upon waves of enemies.

Thief is a fun series. 1 is rather more action oriented than 2 is, and 2 is actually better than 1, since this was during the glory days when sequels generally were better than previous games.

EDIT: Although I'd recommend playing 1 for the story though.

Noticed a status update about the next chapters of HP:MOR.
Quote
(Status update, Dec 25 2011: Ch. 78 complete at 17,000 words, and I'm trying to finish at least Ch. 79 before I publish anything because 78 ends on a major cliffhanger.)

So the next update will be something like 1/4 the length of the first HP book. :D
Best fanfic ever. Though I hope the update comes soon; it's been nearly half a year now.
