Knowledge Bowl match tomorrow, should be interesting. Pretty much every team that has a chance to win is going against two of the others, and we could end up at the front of the league.

(There are 7 teams who have only either gotten second once or twice, and otherwise won. There are 24 teams total, so it's a strange coincidence.)

Sounds more like the Pro Bowl than the Knowledge Bowl. What the heck, man?

Well, I meant that there seem to be a lot of high profile teams there, and that's astonishing.

Well, that's pretty awesome. A prior client I had last year just re-hired me for another job to do; somewhat related to the last project I worked on. Seems they're doing pretty well after I helped them last.

This is the game:
http://armisgame.com/

If I got the message correctly, I am now helping out with the upgraded collector's edition of the game.

Their timing couldn't have been any better. Work has been rather slow lately. Nice to have a familiar client to work with. I think I sorta forgot I can get a free copy of the game since I helped them out. I wonder if I can get a copy of the collector's edition with it after helping out here?

Well, that's this year so far. They've lost a few times in previous years I imagine, but mainly these are the teams that have traded off winning the trophy since the league began. Up until this year, and to some extent last year, it was basically a game between the top 6 teams, most of which were private schools that advertise their program. Insert tiny public school, and you have this year's league contenders. The only other public school is the one we're playing in round 3, a huge inner city school with 20x our school population.

I met Tamora Pierce and apologized for having a first name that was so hard to spell.

While my name isn't terrifically hard to spell, people get it wrong anyway.

Mine is so annoying to spell and pronounce that I usually just say "I'm _________, but you can call me L if you want."

Thank god my father didn't get to name me Bernadette Starbird.

Today is the day I go to Sweeden, going to stay there for approx 1-3 months.
Call it vacation if you will and while I visit family over there, I am going to.. look for possibilities of any jobs to be found over there, as I am hoping to one day get a permanent residence at some point in the future. (Greenland has a lot to be desired in that area, plus the internet will be much cheaper in Sweeden!  :D )

So, wish me luck!

If I were left to my own devices, this would be surprisingly accurate.

I was actually nicknamed L by the Japanese club I led due to personality similarities, more pronounced back then because I was far more reserved.

I hate the craziest dream last night.  I'd put it in my Top 10 most ridiculous dreams.

The first thing I distinctly remember is being in the lobby of an imaginary version of my former high school.  It turns out I gave the Principle (Played by Wallace Shawn!) information that led to the expulsion of somebody, or something like that.  Whoever it is, he's decided he's going to kill me.  Specifically he's going to kill me in a garden near the school.  I'm not sure why he'd pick something like that, it seems out of character for the kind of person who'd kill somebody over getting expelled.  At first I thought it was just an empty thread but someone saw a car pull up to the garden, wait for a few seconds, then quickly drive away.  I was pretty scared.

I got a ride home for some reason from some guys I don't think actually exist.  As I'm leaving I look out and see two cars parked at the school, and the guys inside have guns.  I duck down, thinking they're after me, and text one of my friends warning them.  Turns out it's for a South Korean heritage festival.  With guns.  I don't know, it was a dream.

I fade out of reality here for a few minutes and when I wake up apparently the guys driving me forgot they were supposed to take me home, so I'm at their house, which is completely surrounded by dense and ominous woods.  They have a driveway but it doesn't go anywhere.  The only way out is through a narrow path.  My gracious hosts give me a backpack and a gigantic roll of blank parchment and send me on my way.

The path leads to the kind of existential maze that would probably be full of all kinds of profound symbolism and metaphors normally, but since it's a dream, and it's my dream, it's all bullshit that doesn't make any sense.  I hop around on giant recliners in a creepy red forest until I drop my backpack in a place I can't reach.  Just then I find out there's some kind of macguffin in the pack that I need.  I'm teleported into a science-y lab place where a guy I can only adequately describe as "The Sultan" explains to me that I've failed.  He starts pushing me around and then the fairy from Zelda shows up and tells me that I'm the strongest man in the world.  I do what any sensible person would do in the situation and punch the Sultan in the fucking face.  He runs away and hides in this geodesic dome where they apparently cryonically freeze people.  I climb into a cryonic storage rack and freeze myself (It turns out I also have ice powers) and when they put me in the dome I unfreeze myself then immediately freeze everything including myself.  Ice to meet you, Sultan.

I then unfreeze everything, create an ice-board, and ride the flowing water out of the dome.  More stuff happens but I only vaguely remember it.  I momentarily worry about the guy who's going to kill me and then remember that I'm a superhero and I can probably take him.

Immediately upon waking up, the previously mentioned thought, "the only dangerous part of the obstacle course is the naked tightrope room with the falling hacky sacks and the angry man whose job is to catch and squeeze falling hacky sacks" sprung fully formed from my mind.  I can't tell whether it's hilarious or insane.  Maybe both.  I think the joke is that if you fall the guy will grab and destroy your testicles.

Since we were talking about brushes with greatness (and difficult to spell names), I've chatted a bit before with Zbigniew Brzezinski when he came to do a lecture at Duke. Interesting guy.

And author and poet Fred Chappell (who also wrote the critically-acclaimed Dagon, a Cthulhu mythos piece done as a Southern Gothic) was my professor for a course on "speculative fiction" that I took back in the day. For our final we had to write a fantasy, sci-fi or horror short story. I did a Cthulhu mythos piece where a turn-of-the-century BIA anthropologist comes across a tribe on a reservation that is more than they seem....and I got high praise from him for it. That was one of the most awesome things ever.  :D

I started writing up my character sheet for a D&D game. Not only am I a lute playing shadow kobold, but I also speak 9 different languages, which I picked specifically so I couldn't speak with normal people. What's funny is that I also don't share any languages with the linguist of the group (has 10 different languages), so they won't understand me. That has made my day so far.
