After months of practice I finally managed to play "a thousand miles" successfully on the piano... more or less... at least I did well enough that I'd consider demonstrating in front of other people.

Now do it a thousand more. I can already play most of Skillet now on violin.

I was accepted to my college because of my SAT score (1690) and class rank (6th) they said.

Wait....I thought 1600 was the max score on the SAT?

New SAT is out of 2400.

What the hell? Where do the extra 800 come from? Or do they just grade each half as 1200 instead of 800 now...or is this that "essay section" I see people talking about...

phew...glad they didn't have that way back when. The essay section killed me on my GRE. Absolutely nailed the math and verbal sections, but only got a 2 or 3 (of 5) on the essay--mostly because it's not a test of your ability to write a coherent analytical essay, it's a test of your ability to bullshit effectively with little to no citation material in a time-crunch. Which, now that I think of, is a crucial graduate student survival skill.  ;D

My essay question was, "It is said that 'A picture is worth a thousand words.' Agree or disagree." I think where I went wrong was that instead of sticking to one choice, I basically argued that the question was irrelevant and that it was the communal aspect of the communication medium that mattered. I argued that Roosevelt's radio address after Pearl Harbor was so effective despite the lack of visual images, because of the shared experience of the listeners.

On the old SAT, I got a 1550 out of 1600. I wuz teh smart once.

My two essay topics I took were Racial Discrimination and Real Life Superheros.  The essay section was also the lowest score I got for both times I took the test.  I just can't write good essays.  There must be a solution I'm just not seeing.

You're thinking too extreme.  They mean real life super heroes like just people who help the world.

Very true.  Effective outside of academics as well.

I don't think this is an entirely bad thing, either.  It shows that you have your thoughts pre-organized enough to make use of good communication skills, and in the "real world" the only addition to that is being capable of backing up your words when asked to.
