This honestly should go in the sad thread. But honestly. Some people just aren't worth getting along with.

I suppose they figured the first game was too easy, but that was only because one character could combine with up to three other characters and it combined ALL their stats.

Yeah, Karn is a beast once he learns his Fusion ability, and almost useless - in terms of abilities(Fusion is the only thing he ever learns), his stats, especially speed, are fairly decent - until that point. Ryu(I think that's supposed to be his name, it's used throughout the series for the blue-haired dude who can transform into a dragon) is supposed to be your killing machine, but due to poor design, he gains levels the slowest. The problem is that is was designed so that characters aquired later in the game level faster, presumably to balance out early grinding. Unfortunately, that amount of grinding isn't needed(except when buying Gold Bars, oh god. You need two of them), so when I played it, when Ryu was at level 30, Bleu(the last character to join) was at level 40 and still gaining levels(and spells, she's your mainstay spellcaster, making Nina totally useless until towards the end, and only then not for fighting).

tl;dr: I need to play BoF 2 and 3. I've got BoFIV(PS1 disc is too scratched to used, got a copy for emulator).

 Nina is the most useful of them all barring Karn ripping the game in half. She is the main healer and while no mobs pose a threat you kind of need her for every boss battle.
 Gold bars are mitigated by only having to buy one, the other you can find in the cave near that town. And the game throws money at you at that point to help you out.

 But yeah, returning to 3.

 Edit: Highest level dude I have is 21. I just got a level 35 character.

 It seems only the beginning of this game and the very end are gonna be hard.

Found an old board game in my garage today, called Galaxy Command. Looking from the design and pieces, it might have been inspiration for Homeworld.
