Perhaps to you. I personally find girls much nicer. Softer. More huggable. Plus she keeps putting my hand on her boobs when we're cuddling, so I consider that a plus, intentional or not.

Going through some of my old game system stuff for inspiration on the new one I'm making, and I found some DM notes I took of my players' adventures. For some reason, during their first encounter with some orcs raiding a tomb, one chopped an orc's legs off below the knees to disable him. Once the fighting was over, the shaman went over and closed the wound, and the strongest character carried the poor creature around on his back.

He didn't provide any useful information, but I made them feel bad that they couldn't return him to his clan because of his lost honor. They determined to find a way to get his legs back, no matter what it cost them.

In my notes, his armor is noted as Leather Shorts - Cut off at the knee.

Most of them were first time role players, but when they found he was still alive after the fight they decided they weren't above interrogation. I played on their sympathies after that. The orcs were actually trying to prevent something major from happening, the orc they captured tried to kill himself before meeting his old clan to avoid more dishonor (They stopped him and healed him before he could finish himself off, though), and the clan assumed that he was a traitor and refused to take him back in.

I'm guessing they felt a little bad after all that.

Honestly unless they're actually Roleplayers there's not much of a point. If all you have for a group is roll-players you might as well go play a completely different game together. Playing TRPGs to just the system like some people do makes me wonder why they aren't just playing NWN together or something.

I honestly don't see any problem with roll playing, as long as everyone's on the same page. If everyone just wants to power game and kill stuff, that's great. If everyone wants a level of intrigue and interaction that puts soap operas to shame, that's great, too. Problems start showing up when not everyone wants to do the same thing. The appeal of tabletop games isn't just the role playing, it's the sheer flexibility that they give.

Personally, I prefer a mix of both. Both are fun and have their merits, and it's fairly easy to make everyone happy if they're trying to have fun. I draw role players into the excitement of combat by being descriptive of attacks, spells, and abilities. I draw power gamers into role playing by involving skill checks in social interactions, or perks for taking certain actions. In the end, everyone's done different and still had a good time.
