You people are so persnickety with your free furniture. A lot of the furniture in my house (hell the chair I'm sitting on right now) was sitting on the sidewalk, waiting for a garbage truck, when it was recovered.

Check your local laws though. Here, the law boils down to "If you can pick it up without using a car, it's yours". Might be illegal elsewhere.
Whats with the car part?

1: I don't know how I'd find that out, and 2: if picking up discarded furniture is against the law in my state, then several people I know have broken the law several times, and I am currently sitting in front of an illegally obtained piece of furniture. (A bookshelf turned on its side that I have my computer sitting on. It was sitting in the very same spot, next to that very same dumpster, too.)

What books? I think those all got struck from canon. They're doubly star wars fanfiction now.
Blazes if I know. The last time I read one, they were all canon, but there was only maybe a couple dozen or so. Some point a little after the Young Jedi stuff started coming out.

1: I don't know how I'd find that out
If you're in the states, I'm relatively certain that the entirety or near-entirety of your state laws have to be online, these days. Probably check whatever local courthouse site exists (which it will.). If not, swing by a court house or something and ask around. Most stuff along those lines have a rider involved saying that they have to be provided free of charge to the public if requested.

Abracadabralifornia. The most spot-on RHCP parody I have ever heard. I was literally choking on laughter the first time I heard it.

I found out about it through the Trent Reznor Song someone else posted here.

Let me check Google. Ahh, that's what I thought it was: "The law prohibiting people from picking up trash and putting it into a vehicle is supposed to deter organized rings of criminals from profiting from people’s trash."^

I don't know where you live, but it's fairly easy to check online; You'd be looking for Dumpster-Diver laws. And not being punished doesn't mean it's not illegal, it just means you haven't been seen by a cop who knows the law and/or feels like being an asshole.

All I was able to find were about actual dumpsters. I'm not finding any laws that say I can or cannot bring home discarded furniture.

If you are living in the city, it could honestly be that they bought new furniture and are throwing out the old?
Could be, but bedbugs are a sufficiently horrible thing that the risk probably isn't worth it.
This is my feels on the issue. I'll just buy my furniture thank you!

... even the ones from the non-trilogy books?

There was some sort of 'EU is far too messy, we're officially sorting it now and you'll get to know whats left later' thing afaik, not just dumping all of them.

I want to thank you guys for being awesome. I noticed today that this last year has been a really good one, and in large part due to awesome people around here making me feel like I need to do awesome things. I may or may not have succeeded at any of that, but that's beside the point. Having goals is nice.

And furthermore... Oh, wait, I've used up my annual sap quota. Ah well.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Wolfeyez and I just took a nap. Then decided to make brownies. At midnight. Sometimes, I love being an adult.

Oh, right, I forgot to make sure of this earlier, but SalmonGod, have you read Let's Break FF6? It's relevant to today, and they accomplish something beautiful at the end.

I haven't, but I will.  Thanks!

Also thinking about picking up the android version of the game, with updated sprites and all.  I think it also includes the cut scenes from the Playstation version, which I've never watched.
