Just for fun, I checked how much an 81-section hull would cost. 162000. With 2000 Health. Note that, unfortunately for Shadow, I plan to design and deploy the Deus-class epicship.

Also, some questions:

Is there a formula for the cost of fighter bays/fighters? If so, what is it?
Are there limits on how much a fighter can load, other than the section/module limitations?
What's the formula for weapon price?
What's the formula for bubble shield health? It's six times the ship's health, right?
What are ordinary research chances?
How soon will the next turn be up?

Is there a formula for the cost of fighter bays/fighters? If so, what is it?
Fighters are treated as full ships in terms of cost, but HP and weapon damage is modified to 1/5th effectiveness.
Are there limits on how much a fighter can load, other than the section/module limitations?
No, they are basically tiny ships, however no PD or modules are allowed.
What's the formula for weapon price?
All weapons are balanced by DPF(damage per frame), the DPF for a weapon is determined by:
 (Damage*clipsize)/(firerate*clipsize+reload-firerate)
Or simply by:
 Damage / reload
If the weapon has a clipsize of 1(blasters for example).

The weapon's DPF is compared to the blaster's DPF of approximately .48 to determine the base cost. Any other unusual features (submunitions, explosive radius, PD negation, etc.) adds to the cost via judgement call.
Then the cost is reduced by a weapons research bonus, every successful research involving weaponry(or PD as well) reduces the cost of new weapons by 50, of course the cost can't go too low, but that is again subject to judgement call.
What's the formula for bubble shield health? It's six times the ship's health, right?
Actually x3.
What are ordinary research chances?
1/2, as researches are failed the chances for following researches go up to 2/3, then 5/6, then if your unlucky enough to fail a third time it's guaranteed.
Every successful research reduces the chances in a similar manner until the chances are back at 1/2.
As for Redwarrior's research ability, it is fixed at 1/3 and never changes.
How soon will the next turn be up?
Still trying...

Remember, research can effect just about anything, so those bubble shields for example could be modified, or the fighters, and so on.

Reboot Turn 08 Report:

(the following list represents the order of turns)
-Midgar(DFnewb)
-Valhalla(Myroc)
-Safehold(Redwarrior0)
-Pio-Alions(Janet)

(colored circles represent system control, colored tick marks represent fleet presence(basically ships or stations in the sector without system control),D-1/2/3 represents asteroid density level)

Myroc has finally seized his Beta, all players now own their particular systems fully.

DFnewb researched ship construction from construction modules, this combined with his earlier researches into faster construction results in ship production from ships at the rate of a station mounted production bay.

Myroc Failed his research this turn. Also, due to a inherant flaw in the point rocket PD weapon, his will be replaced by point MGs. A special form of particle gun with a machinegun style that keeps with his ballistic theme.

Redwarrior0 succeeded on both of his researches this turn. This resulted in beamers and heavy beamers. Beamers are a energy beam that completely bypasses PD and strikes instantly, doing damage over the period of a second. Heavy beamers are a higher damage variant with slightly enhanced range.
With these enhancements, Redwarrior has designed his first 'big ship'. The Dragontooth carries a triple heavy beamer turret, two dual beamer turrets, two twin blaster turrets(one of which is facing backwards), and 6 enhanced point beams. But most notable is the triple bubble shields!
The Dragontooth clearly represents Redwarrior's vastly advanced technology. It also looks bad-ass.

Janet Researched her own beam weapon... But this ain't no weak little light show, no, THIS is a LASER. The thing spews forth death in the form of a large beam of light and lightning, and is so powerful it even sends forth a explosion right out of the barrel. It is quite expensive though, the most expensive weapon as of yet.
She has designed a light ship carrying this monsterous weapon. It isn't well defended but is rather cheap for what amounts to Dr. Doom's LASER satellite.

It is now DFnewb's turn.

Spoiler: My ambitious plan (click to show/hide)
That SECRET PROJECT is for the main gun of the SAS Deus, to be researched sometime in the future. And no, I don't feel like getting out a calculator or figuring out the flagship cost.

By the way, how much does Janet's laser cost?

A mere 2500, but it's still the most powerful and expensive weapon yet.

If one were to make ones own components, what size, in pixels, would be appropriate?

Typically a sprite for BSF is 80x80 pixels with black border. Going above is possible, but if you can keep it within 80x80 that would be best.
Make sure to have that black border, failure to do so will result in issues. Everything else is pretty much up to you.
